Which current day players are HOF bound?

Featured Replies

I am bored and was thinking about which players, who are playing today are headed to Cooperstown.

To make this a bit less speculative I only counted players with at least 5 years of major league service time and came up with this list.

Pujols

Sabathia

Trout

Verlander

Sale

Cabrera

Posey

Kershaw

are pretty much locks IMO

Fringe cases include:

Bumgarner

Cano

Lester

Altuve

Machado

Arenado

Can you come up with any more names?

Just kidding (mostly), but good list. I agree with all of them and can't really think of anyone else with 5+ years of experience

I'd put Greinke on the fringe case list

Votto as well

Good call, especially Votto. I'd even argue he should becloser to a lock. A career .423 OBP is just incredible and his 151+ OPS is better than Cabreras.

Scherzer

I completely forgot about Felix Hernandez, I‘d put him into the fringe category.

Kris Bryant is off to a hell of a start (I know you said 5 years, but this is his 5th season so just throwing him a bone).

Harper started so young. He's got an MVP under his belt. He'll probably get in. Same for Giancarlo Stanton.

I think when it's all said and done, Mookie Betts and Paul Goldschmidt will have good cases.

Yadier Molina is well regarded.

Andrew McCutchen may have a shot.

David Price, Craig Kimbrel, Aroldis Chapman...also a shot (no pun intended)

Sale is more of the fringe case for me. He's way too inconsistent. He's dominant for a year or two amd then surrounds it with 2-3 years of disappointment. He's only had two truly exceptional seasons in his career(2014 and 2017)

Horrible take.  He hasn't been inconsistent at all.  Top 6 in Cy Young voting every year between 2012-2018.  His peripherals have been terrific every year of his career (and they are still really good this year).
