How Ken Griffey Jr. Almost Won a Ring in 2005

The Sports Weekly report even mentioned specific prospects, indicating that outfielder Chris Young and first baseman Casey Rogowski would have gone to the Reds in the deal.

“In 2005, the White Sox tried to trade three prospects to Cincinnati for Griffey,” Crasnick wrote. “But Carl Lindner, then the CEO of the Reds, reportedly stepped in and vetoed the trade because Chicago wanted Cincinnati to pay 60 percent of the $40 million-plus that was owed to Griffey at the time.”

Damn it Jerry.

Possible butterfly effect: Sox probably don't do the Thome trade, keeping Rowand and Gio.  Anderson can be shipped for a pitcher, probably better than Vazquez.

Rowand would have left for the big money the year after anyway.

IIRC Griffey's first game for the Sox was in Kansas City. He had an RBI. I was there :)

Damn shame he couldn’t stay healthy. His numbers would have been beyond crazy.

And I would have much rather of seen him beat Aaron than Bonds.

Typically I can do without these stories, but this was interesting, wow, would have been wild
