August 12, 20205 yr Hahn sold high for a perennial 35hr everyday player and a #3 starter. Couldn't pass that up. Quintana was due to regress with some of his outliers.

Quintana was due to regress with some of his outliers. What outliers? He was remarkably consistent in walk, hit, strikeout rates, etc with the Sox, if anything with slight improvements year to year.

The year he was traded he saw a big drop in his peripherals which he luckily offset with the highest strand rate of his career. If Q was a stock Hahn bought at rock bottom and sold at the top. Hahn has clear weaknesses but trading high is not one of them. It was a heist and most Sox fans knew at the time Q was entering the downside of his career, you could see it in his peripherals that year and just watching him pitch. Lost some of that command on his fastball and he didn't have a huge margin for error.
