January 25, 20215 yr amazing story. The Yankees signed Adam Ottavino to a 3 year 27 mill deal. But in the third year his alotted salary was worth more to them than Ottavino's production, so they traded him, even though he wasn't that good. You can trade salary when all you need is the salary space. If they are your most talented asset AND most expensive is when you are in deep doo doo.
January 25, 20215 yr Yankees shed $8 mill in salary, $9 mill luxury tax hit. I assume they will re-sign Gardner now.

I'm not quite sure I follow... is there a good read on this or an easier way to explain? I'd be interested NVM, I see that they also added in a prospect to it, makes sense to me now. But when there are 100 decent relievers on the free agent market and probably more to trade, and you make market and had a bad year against lefties, you aren't going to find a market.
