My two cents on this...

Why do the White Sox keep him around and not give him an opportunity?

The guys they lost because they have kept him around are no great shakes but if you are going to keep him why not play him?  I do find it odd.

Why would they give him away until they find something better?

  • Pretty much exactly how I feel about every single one of your posts.

  • So Collins is gonna have to prove he can ACTUALLY catch.  This is a great depth/fallback move.

  • The Collins love on this site is incredible. The guy is not exactly a front line player. He is not great defensively and what we’re his stats in the minors? He is not that great. Neither is lecroy but

I see it more like this... The Sox had this hole and even with having every piece of statistical data on Yermin Mercedes, they still chose to play guys like AJ Reed and Matt Skole over him.  The Sox know more than anyone in baseball about Yermin, and still went out and found waiver wire garbage to start over him.  Even with the Sox decision making, no other team in baseball has been wiling to acquire Mercedes.  The odds are really, really, really high that 2+2=4 here, and he joins the scrap heap of 4A players who never could break though after putting up insane minor league hitting numbers.

It's just disappointing that while in a rebuild that the Sox couldn't find key pieces that they could keep for a while. It's just not guys who are HOF'ers but guys that the Dodgers have picked up over the years who contributed many years to playoff teams and the World Series winning teams like Justin Turner, Max Muncy and Chris Taylor. It would especially disappointing if they are in your own backyard.

Granted those are guys who played a position or were versatile. All had issues that made them expendable but the Dodgers worked with them. Turner was non tendered, Muncy released and Taylor acquired in a prospect for prospect trade although Taylor had played in 3 seasons with Seattle and had 256 PA to that point.

No one traded for Muncy and Turner either.

Because according to you odds are really really high they are anything more than AAAA players so easily replaced.
