Gavin Sheets states his case for playing against LHP

Well he convinced me.

Teams know how to play him now without doing research. Play to pull against RHP and to go away against LHP.

Opponents cannot stop Gavin Sheets, they can only hope to contain him (or hope La Russa keeps him out of the lineup and plays Brian Goodwin instead).

If Goodwin could play even an acceptable level of defense, there may be an argument, but he cannot, which is why he has a negative bWAR this season. If you're going to have a cipher playing in the outfield, may as well play the vastly superior hitter.

Never said they could stop him. Just how they should play him to make it look like they are trying. :)

Yes but how do you defend against 470 foot bombs....shift away boys!!!

I don't think I'd start him vs a LHP in a playoff game, but he definitely needs to get some at bats against LHP until then if the Sox view him as a potential every day player.

Maybe you push him against lefties now, but Andrew Vaughn absolutely destroys lefties already, and is a much better OF than Sheets is.

Surprised he needs to use both arms to do it.

Yes, Vaughn has earned Tony's trust in the field and at bat, but while Andrew is out, Sheets could use everyday at bats and pre-game work + starts in the OF to provide a solid playoff roster option, and also gets him exposure to prepare for next year.

It's going to be a crowded playoff lineup and roster mix, just hoping Sheets gets enough exposure now for Tony to consider him for the playoff roster and potential playoff starts at DH or RF vs. RHP (and PH appearances off the bench).

He is not a long term solution.  I have seen too many like him.

Isn't Gavin the kind of skill set that teams no longer value? Nice bench piece.
