Morrissey column...

Must be nice to drop a column every once in a while of the most obvious observations and get paid for it as your full time gig.

By the way just to clarify I reached out to Rick about his 130 million payroll figure and he clarified that he was just counting the guys currently on the 26 man roster. If you add up all the guys under contract and injured it's closer to 180 million.

While it's hard to blame him for Hendriks...but, if you followed the Sox from the Roberto Hernandez years on, you would realize this team usually succeeded with finding closers and high end relievers in a bargain bin fashion.

Not by overpaying for past results.

Just look at Koch Linebrink Dotel and Robertson...and our current bullpen's exorbitant salaries.

Or just look within our division at Duran and Clase.

The last Dominican reliever we produced was Jesus Pena a decade ago.

Without a strong international safety net, you always end up overpaying in free agency.  That's where we are now with the lack of top prospects in AA/AAA.

They need to spend money in other areas.

Wasn't Rick Morrissey the guy that absolutely LAMENTED the Cubs rebuild for years leading up to 2016, to the point where it looked like he was hoping it it would fail so he would be right? Dude is a complete clown.

Not sure if he will live up to Jenks, Foulke and Sergio Santos...or even Takatsu, but since we have the worst save conversion rate and most blown saves as a team, there's basically nowhere to go but up.
