I was at Idaho State football practice this morning and my friend who is one of the athletic trainers told me he just saw an ad the Sox placed looking for an athletic trainer for the minor league system.

I don't remember if they said it was to be in charge of that department or not, just that they'd be based in Phoenix (Glendale) and would travel to the different minor league affiliates.

Don't know if Getz is firing more people or they are expanding the department or what.

What I do know is the Sox have had a number of people come through the door the last several years as far as trainers and strength and conditioning people.

Very little continuity...maybe that's part of the reason they can't go two weeks without a player getting a serious injury.

Not qualified...even by White Sox (low) standards

"Minor league athletic trainers" (or strength coaches, nutritionists, etc.) are in demand by every org every offseason and being based at the ST complex but traveling to affiliates is standard practice.

It doesn't necessarily denote a leadership role as opposed to being like...the guy who works with players in the Kannapolis weight room. Orgs have plenty of trainers/coaches that aren't the "named" folks/positions, and there's usually a fair amount of turnover.

For example, the other Sox are currently hiring an undisclosed number of "Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches [who]  will report to Fort Myers, FL for Spring Training and then travel with an affiliate team": https://www.teamworkonline.com/baseball-jobs/fenwaysports/boston-red-sox/assistant-minor-league-strength-conditioning-coach-2056252

And you can tell it's not any sort of high level role because previous baseball or coaching experience is merely "a plus" ?

Funny, I was eating at a restaurant last week and there were 2 guys sitting next to me. One was a trainer of some sort with the Cubs and he was talking about this job. For those who think I’m some freak who listens to other’s conversations, it was one of those communal tables and you couldn’t help but hear when we had our faces stuffed with food and weren’t talking.

Yeah I had a long layover in LAX last August. Some San Diego exec was talking on his phone pretty loudly in the lounge. He was bitching pretty loudly and openly about Tatis' to-be-announced suspension.

"last August" = 2022.
