November 5, 200322 yr Just trying to get more props for Jeremy, not promising he'll make the team. But now that I've got your attention, here is what Mr. Reed did in his last game for Team USA. 2 At bats 2 runs 2 singles. A SACRIFICE BUNT A STOLEN BASE. I know it's just an exhibition game. I know it's not the big league. I know he's probably a year a way. But that's the kind of guy Guillen is looking for. And for all the complaining about the new manager that I've read on this board, my only comment is: I've got a lot more gripes with guys making millions of dollars a year who can't bunt, can't go from first to third on a single to right field, throw to the wrong base and refuse to hit to right field. I think it's pretty clear that with this hire, JR and KW are sending the message that they won't be afraid to play a younger lineup and back-up the bus with this group has has now underachieved in back to back seasons. Good for them. I wouldn't be surprised to see two of these four guys starting in the outfield -- Rowand, Harris, Reed, Borchard. And if Frank gets ticked off, he can agree to a trade, too. I, for one, am ready to see some of the younger hungrier players get a chance. And if Reed is one, so be it.
November 5, 200322 yr I'm likin Jeremy Reed more and more every day. And your right, I think guillen would like this guy alot. I'm hapy that now stealing bases should actually be a part of the white sox, We have some tools we just don't know how to use them.
November 5, 200322 yr Author Reed was ranked the second best hitting prospect in the Southern League. the only guy he trailed was Miguel Cabrera. Ozzie saw him rake. He'll give the kid a long look in Tucson.
November 5, 200322 yr I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do in spring training. He could open a lot of eyes and move up faster than we all think.
November 5, 200322 yr Good to see he's playin well for team USA. But I don't wanna rush him to the majors and call him the saviour ala Tuomu Ruutu and the Blackhawks. He needs a full year at AAA, and then a call up in September if we need him.
November 5, 200322 yr If Magglio does indeed get moved. I think you will see Mr. Reed roaming our outfield. I, for one, am not disappointed by that thought.

If Maggs is dealt I sure hope Reed is the real thing, or that Borchard pans out. Everyone talks about our depth in the OF... but I'm still not sold on trading Maggs (or even CLee)
November 5, 200322 yr Author Sox don't have proven depth in the outfield -- or anywhere. But with the current budget, I wonder if we can carry Maggs for $14 million in right and Caballo for $7-8 million in left. Not to mention Konerko and Frank. need to spend more of the money on pitching.
November 5, 200322 yr Sure. Everybody loves Jeremy Reed. Until he debuts with an 0-4. Then it's going to be "He sucks!" and "Send him down!" It happens with every young player that comes up and doesn't produce like Albert Pujols.
November 5, 200322 yr I would give him another year in the minors, IMO. No need to rush him and destroy his confidence. He's so overcome with and playing with such confidence and pride in his ability that it's not funny. Let's not rush him. Let him develop like we did with Crede. We will enjoy the results.

It won't take near that long, all he has to do is take a first pitch strike in his first AB and everyone will start complaining...

LOL It certainly didn't take Neal Cotts long to "suck" The difference is that Cotts downfall (control,) is very hard to correct. This is why I do not think we will see Cotts perform at the major league level. If he does not have control he will not make it. He can not overpower people. If they could package Cotts and Borchard for Vazquez, I would nto be too put off. I think the two hardest things to teach are strike zone discipline (cutting down strikeouts,) for a hitter and control for a pitcher. The things Borchard and Cotts lack and one of the pluses for Reed.

Neal does NOT suck!!!

The things Borchard and Cotts lack and one of the pluses for Reed. No, there is no difference. Cotts made one start and struggled so everybody said he sucks. The point is that judgement was made way too quickly, which is the point that was trying to be made with Reed. This was never about Cotts control, or how good he will be, it was about the idiotic overreaction of a large number of people who post on message boards. If the Sox can trade Cotts and Borchard for Vazquez, they should do it without hesitation. They should also trade Rauch for Mike Mussina and Honel for Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling. All three deals have about the same chance of being made. ZERO

I thought that remark of mine would get a lot of reaction, since Harris, Rowand, Borchard, Olivo, Garland and Crede all suck. Oh Wait! Crede doesn't suck any more. Yet.
November 7, 200322 yr Actually, I think they should deal Olivo and Miles for Posada You can't be serious. I have a better chance of screwing Pamela Anderson in an hour than that trade ever has of even being considered. But, dreams and fantasies are important and inevitable for a creative mind. Keep dreaming away. Personally, I would rather trade Konerko, Rowand, and Danny Wright to Seattle for Ichiro, Boone, Olerud, Sasaki, and their top 5 minor-league prospects. Hey, as long as we are dreaming away .....
