Would be interesting to know the last previous season, if ever, the White Sox have changed over half the 40 man between the final game of the previous season and opening day the following season. I will try to update the roster changes either annually or twice annually (end of season and start of following season) until Rick Hahn’s entire 40 man roster is purged. I see this as more of a long term project given the lack of depth of talent in the entire organization. Beyond continued development and acquisition of prospects over the next few years, the keys will be whether Getz will be effective in reshaping the organization including player development, and whether Jerry will spend any money or just go into bottom of the league payroll mode like he did from 1986 until the end of the old park. He didn't lift payroll much even with record attendance the first two years of the park, but did raise it in time for 1993, so several years after he started demanding a new stadium. The two key improvements I see in Getz over Hahn are that he is smart enough to realize that defense is important and that he needs to acquire as much pitching talent as he can because many will obviously bust. Hahn didn’t give a crap about defense and he also thought his work was done once he found 5 legitimate starters. He never accounted for injuries. However, I am also not a fan of what Getz apparently values in position players so far. It reminds me too much of Kenny and his love for “grinders” over talent. I did the payroll math a few days ago and came up with the same as you. They went from $181 million opening day payroll last year to $126 million opening day payroll this year. Dropped $55 million. Agreed, so I updated the thread title to transaction tracker for accuracy. Will track snapshots of the 40 man roster at year end and opening day. Will also track removals of Hahn’s remaining 19 players (16 active, 3 on 60 Day MLB IL) on the 40 man roster as they occur, until there are no players left.
