Expand the Playoffs and Start in September

Featured Replies

I wish baseball would get with the 21 century and expand the playoffs. Teams like the Sox shouldn't be playing in September. Not just because they are bad, it's to help them next season by their players not getting hurt. Rest their guys, have an expanded fall training to get then ready for the next season.

Have the top four in each league earn a bye to the second round. Have eight teams in each league playing for the opportunity to play those eight. That would be a 24 team playoff without the worst of the worst teams.

I wish they would format it so the wildcard is a best of 5 and all other series are best of 7.

With respect, no thank you.

I kind of agree. Either go back to having the best two teams in each league face off straight away in the league championship, or reduce the season and go hogwild on playoffs. What’s the point of a 162 game season when you can lose to a team that you were twenty games better than in that massive marathon of a season. You’d think 162 games would be enough to determine a 105 win team was better than an 85 win team.

If you’re going that route, cut the season to 112-120 games, expand the playoffs to like sixteen or even twenty teams, then have a series of round robin pool play to eliminate teams until you arrive at the league championship series. Would make for way more interesting baseball with teams constantly facing elimination for two months

The NFL just expanded their regular season and are looking at doing it again.

$I’m $not $sure, $but $something $tells $me $that $not $all $teams ($especially $the “$cut $the $season $short” $teams) $would $be $on $board.

I'm thinking the shared TV money from playoffs would offset the loss of meaningless home games.

With shortening the season that would have to happen.

Not sure that would offset the local broadcast revenues

You lose playing time for young “talent” and you peeve off your season ticket base.
