How Long Until Getz Gets Real?

There isn't a definition or stat that we all will agree with. I think we could also use 2023 as the date of the rebuild.

2020 and 2021 were historic in that it was the first back to back playoff appearances in team history. 2022 was a team that Vegas felt was a top 7 team to win the World Series.

By White Sox standards that's about as good as it gets.

But nothing close to sustainable was built in exchange for a decade of one of the worst overall records in baseball.

We’ve gone from mid tier to 29th in revenues…unable to even compete with the likes of smaller markets like Kansas City, Minnesota, Cleveland and Detroit.

And not even a single playoff series win.

The attendance future looks like something from the early to mid 70s (playing some games in Milwaukee) or late 80s apocalypse, or worse, because that latter team had a future core of stars and a new stadium on the way at least.

  • I think you’re underestimating Getz’s ability to start off with an already low asking price and still end up with a return even less than that.

At the last deadline no top prospects we're traded by any team.

One person's "reclamation project" is another person's "soft-tossing veterans for bloated deals and washed-position players who only signed here because they literally had no other option who wouldn't be worth anything, and that will be the big move of the off-season."

That is the exception not the norm.

And no another teams reclamation project is not another soft-tossing veteran. I am talking about going after hard throwing pitchers or failed top prospects who are in need of a change of scenery with a bit of control. We have to AB and IP to give them and showcase now is the time to do it.

Not sign a bunch of washed up guys with no FV at all. We will see I guess.

Like who?

Bobby Jenks and Sergio Santos in past years...but challenging to find starters.

Guys with diminished value such as Giolito Lopez Gavin Floyd that initially failed at the big league level.

Jose Contreras...picking up part of unwanted vet salaries.

Today, not 20 years ago.

Giolito and Lopez had both struggled initially with Washington.

Gore to the Nats as part of a package…and SD traded a boatload of starting pitching prospects for high leverage relievers last year.

Pepiot in the Glasnow trade.

Ragans for Chapman.

The problem here is needing positional talent twice as much as the pitching side.

And how depressing it is for fans to have a non-competitive offense.

Crochet and Robert are both relatively cheap.  There is no reason to trade them unless blown away.  Seems obvious to me.

Particularly for the type of mediocre returns that Getz has been getting for our better players.
