MLB Revenues Hit Record $12.1 billion

The most recent Forbes valuations, which cover the 2023 season place the revenues for just the 30 clubs, and not including league revenues at $11.34 billion. That’s an average of $378 million per club—the steepest increase since 2015. The Sports Business Journal reported gross revenues for 2023 at $11.6 billion, making 2024’s figure an increase of +4.3%. When accounting for inflation, gross revenues have grown +15.2% since 2012.

Going to be hard to claim you need a salary cap with a straight face to the union after this type of news.

Tax write-off against carried profits/capital gains...basically that's all the extra revenue that Ohtani created for 2024.

Or $100/$277 million White Sox yearly revenues.

36%.

And the wild thing is that the Sox revenues are basically flat since 2020.  Such a waste of a franchise.

Sure, because the white sox revenues are the same as the dodgers.

No its not. While the revenue is increasing you can't honestly think that teams like kc are on equal footing with LA.

Revenue isn't the question. It's the disparity between the teams that is the issue.

If all teams shared equally like the nfl, you would have a point.

Forget the Dodgers then…  it’s still pathetic.  The Sox are in great company.

Correct, it's the disparity. There are many teams in the bottom. Few at the top.

If the White Sox actually took advantage of the market they are in, and ran this franchise like anything but a family convience store, they would be a highly profitable team with a lot more revenue coming in on an annual basis.  The disparity exists for them because of their own stupidity and stubbornness.

Yet those many teams at the bottom have still signed players to $100 million dollar contracts.

No, but they did manage to sign Witt to a $288 million dollar contract.  Jerry is at $75 million.

They're already a HIGHLY profitable team.  JR is going to bank $100M+ this year.  Your point of their own stupidity and stubbornness still applies.

On paper they are actually one of the least profitable teams in baseball.

owner Hal Steinbrenner admitted that the team known as the Evil Empire cannot compete with the Dodgers spending spree, per Meredith Marakovits of YES Network.

“It’s difficult for most of us owners to be able to do the kinds of things that they’re doing, and we’ll see if it pays off. They still have to have a season relatively injury free for it to work out for them, and it’s a long season, as you know, and once you get to the postseason, anything can happen.”

White Sox barely ahead of Rays and Marlins for projected payroll...will fall way under at 30 once Robert and/or Benintendi are gone.

Rays moving into a High A stadium for at least one year obviously won't exactly boost their revenue generating ability.

Coming from the Yankees that's quite ironic isn't it? 😆

Unlocking the Asian/Japanese market a huge key for untapped revenues...

Why nobody has created a "Korean team" is beyond me...Giants might be the closest now with CF Woo if he can produce to justify that hefty contract.

Could have gone with HaSeong Kim over Adames, for example.

True. Let's see how the rest if the team goes with so much dedicated to one player.

Maybe some but there is no way you can convince me that they could compete with LA or NY.

The disparity might be less but not significantly.

Yeah, I mean with the record of 10 straight World Series going to the Dodgers and Yankees, how could you deny this?
