caulfield12
Name(s) to watch in 2025: Taylor Taylor rewarded them by striking out 32 and walking two in his pro debut in 2024. He headed to the Arizona Fall League after that, and his command issues popped up again as he posted a 13-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio. If the regular season performance before his AFL struggles is close to his 2025 performance, Taylor will be on next winter's top 100." https://global.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/43639138/2025-top-10-prospect-rankings-all-30-mlb-teams-kiley-mcdaniel#chw Edited February 5 by caulfield12
caulfield12
Obviously going to be a ton of debate over 5 through 10. Braden and Quero are switched from near where everyone else has them. Gonzalez is #11-15 on all the other lists...if not a bigger fall. No sign of Wolkow or Meidroth. Well, at least something to talk about. Timmy U
I think this list is defensible even if I don’t see it the same way. He is not wish-casting on guys like Wolkow and Bonemer. He’s waiting for them to prove it. Clearly, he sees Jacob Gonzalez as a high-floor lefty hitter who stays at short. The disagreement points to a lot of depth in the system right now. Sox have 20 or so guys who would normally be in their top ten, so it is nothing but good.

I don't think their top level guys are anywhere close to this time around, but they have more mid range talent where if they figure a thing or two out, they could be MLB regulars. It's still not a deep system, but I do think there are more guys of interest than the last time around.

He does seem to think more highly of Colson's defense than others have, saying he could field at SS just without a lot of range. His Jacob Gonzalez review is basically "Well I guess maybe he could be a utility guy he did used to look better", which doesn't give you a lot of confidence in the lower half of this list.

To me, this is the takeaway from the whole interview: Quote If you can play an average shortstop, put the ball in play, and hit 12 homers, that is a role 5 player (50 grade) that will put up 1.6 to 2.0 WAR. I think C. Monty will stick at short at least for the duration of his first season in the bigs. He may even stick until Gonzo or Bonemer knock him to 3B/1B/LF. I don't think he's a SS and I don't think he's going to hit. He's a bad athlete with a bad swing and that's a really bad combination. Teams draft athletes because it's easier for athletic bodies to make adjustments than it is for stiff bodies. The changes he has made have not helped him become even close to a productive hitter and he's going to have to make more adjustments as he continues to face better and better pitching that his body likely won't allow him to make.
