November 18, 200322 yr http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=indi...ov=st&type=lgns Now this is a guy I would like to see on our team. He has got a hell of an arm, it seems like he just needs a little mechanical work.
November 18, 200322 yr I think he would be a great RH set-up man for Marte and our future closer.... who ever that is....
November 18, 200322 yr There is definitely something going on with him since he just got outrighted off of Cleveland's roster yesterday, they sent him outright to their AAA team. I presume that makes him a free agent but I'm not sure. He's got one hell of an arm, I wonder if he's healthy.
November 18, 200322 yr If you remember, Baez failed 2 seasons ago as a starter, was moved to the closer's role towards the end of that year then was decent as a closer last season before being removed from that role. My guess is that Cleveland didn't want to pay a guy who clearly has no defined role as a pitcher at this point. He'll get a look from a lot of teams, but clearly he hasn't met his potential.
November 18, 200322 yr Author I'd rather have Kerry Ligtenberg... Thing is we are going to need a right handed arm with Flash all but gone from Chicago.

November 18, 200322 yr And a good one... alot better than Baez. I shouldn't say alot better, there number are pretty close from last year. But I feel that Ligtenberg has better stuff and a better makeup as a setup man for whomever the Sox choose for their closer.
November 18, 200322 yr Funny I just told my friend a few days ago that the sox should try to acquire Baez, now that he is free to walk, I think it would be an excellent pick up.
November 18, 200322 yr Baez would be an outstanding pickup. This kid has a great arm and to me is already a solid reliever. I wouldn't want him as a closer, but he'd add great depth to the pen. I'd let Gordon walk and add Baez, Lightenberg and another reliever, possibly Sully.

I think Baez has much better stuff than Lightenberg when he's got some control. I really think he must be a headcase to be as unsuccessful as he has been the last while. My opinion Lightenberg>Baez
November 19, 200322 yr Baez would be an outstanding pickup. This kid has a great arm and to me is already a solid reliever. I wouldn't want him as a closer, but he'd add great depth to the pen. I'd let Gordon walk and add Baez, Lightenberg and another reliever, possibly Sully. Sounds good to me.

I just heard on the radio that KW is in today's newspapers, saying Gordon is gone, can't afford him, can't make the numbers work, blah blah blah. As the rebuilding continues.....
November 19, 200322 yr Baez reminds me of Kyle Farnsworth (velocity notwithstanding). A guy who was forced into a role that made them uncomfortable, and they inevitably failed. But when used properly in the bullpen, did a nice job (NLCS notwithstanding!!). Baez would be really good as a setup guy, but he's no closer. He doesn't have the mental makeup or the pitches for that.
November 19, 200322 yr Author Under a quirk of contracts, Baez isn't a free agent. Talk about scumbag negotiations. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-i...ov=ap&type=lgns
