Schultz just gave up a 3 run shot in the Futures Game. Not worried yet, but things are not trending well at all.

Yeah fastball flat with little movement and slider lacked his bite of previous years.

Schultz and Smith have both regressed. Is it time to question the Sox pitching program? McDougal went to an outside pitching lab to fix his issues. I don’t think you can just assume Bannister is a genius.

I don’t particular like how they handled Schultz last year.

I’ll also add Iriarte is basically a NP now, Eder regressed until he was DFA, and Nastrini turned into a disaster. I’m not expecting perfection, but the track record is starting to look a little frightening.

I did not realize McDougal went to an outside pitching lab.  That does not seem great.

I remember when Luis Alexander Basabe hit a 3 run homer in the Futures Game.

Yeah he went to Cressey supposedly.

Some teams, including Sox teams of the past, discourage or prohibit use of outside labs/coaches/etc. At minimum I'd say it's a good thing if the Sox current leadership lets guys go get external help when they want it. Even better if it works when it happens.

Same here.  Baby him. Pitch every Saturday for 50 pitches or so. I wonder if that's how Randy Johnson was handled early.  He's the guy Schultz has been compared to.

It was odd pushing him to AAA when he was struggling in AA.

Taylor wasn't struggling in AA and skipped AAA; but he has command issues...too much over the heart of the plate.  Now maybe the major league pen is the proper place to develop that, but it needs development.

All of this another reason I'd rather they not use early draft capital on a pitcher.
