Yeah, that's exactly why the article is silly. The premise was using a whopping two scoreless innings as evidence that the Sox would regret the loss of a guy who had been riding the waiver wire.

Meanwhile the Sox have multiple lefties who have thrown a whole THREE scoreless innings! With multiple strikeouts/inning instead of Rolinson's 0!

Like @WestEddy said, it's just filler content. If they kept Rolison over Eisert, you could write the same article and arguably have a better case (Eisert is slightly younger with an additional year, and has been better)

I didn't judge a pitcher by a single appearance. I just said it was funny that the subject was getting lit up as the writer posted his article. The true definition of irony. A result that is the exact opposite of that which was intended, almost as if being mocked by fate.

There has been at least 20-30 proposed Skubal trade articles the last months.

Let’s be honest — the Mets are managing his injury-prone ass way better than the Sox ever did. Robert could still very well get injured, but I recall the Sox having Robert active and in the lineup when he wasn’t even healthy yet and simply told him to jog the bases rather than run full speed. He was clearly still hobbled. And it’s not like the Sox learned anything from that situation. Remember last season when Tauchman was obviously not ready yet and he reinjured himself running the bases at a snail’s pace? So they played the same stupid injury game with both their franchise player and an old vet on a one year deal. The Sox are historically dumb as hell when it comes to this.

Hell they had Robert playing half a season swinging the bat basically one armed his other one was hurt so badly it looked like.

Is the bolded not dependent on whether or not it bears fruit? The season is a week away and he has 11 ABs and 23 innings in the field. I assume he's getting reps in the backfields or cages somewhere, but how much caution keeps him from being ramped up and ready for an everyday starting role next week, given that his last game will have been a full 6 months prior? And if that caution is an all season thing, how big is the benefit of getting 100-110 games of him "on purpose" instead of by accident/circumstance?

But I agree that he played through injuries regularly here, in part due to carrying the mantle of being a "cornerstone" in a way he won't have to in NY. The staff needs to protect guys from themselves when necessary, but I do think he took after Abreu a bit (who famously wouldn't sit for anything...except a send off from the fans apparently) which is why I've never liked implications that he was lazy or didn't care.

Regarding your first paragraph, I guess we will have to see. I already said that Robert is injury-prone and he could easily get hurt regardless of any of this early Spring Training protection.

However, regarding your second paragraph, the Sox pulled the same nonsense of playing guys that were still injured with not just their franchise player but a veteran in Tauchman as well, and that was as recently as last season. In both cases, it led to further time on the IR for both players. How often was it mentioned that the Sox would keep injured players on their active roster instead of calling a healthy player up and still choose to either play the banged up player or simply play games a man down? The Sox have been pretty bad at injury and roster management for years.

Tauchman is 35 and injury-prone. Not a surprise. I still think the Mets are managing Robert better than the Sox ever did. Can Robert still get injured? Of course.
