I worry about Taylor’s mechanical ability to deal his stuff for 100 pitches 30 times a season and I don’t have that same concern with McDougz. I think he’s either a starter or not a MLB player. But what do I know.

Obviously the previous TJ works against Taylor...that said not many guys at that velo have held on long term as starters but at least Crochet has made it so far.

I dunno that Taylor and Crochet are comparable either. I think I can be quoted on this forum thinking Crochet was starting caliber (back when that was a debate based on his limited innings) but I’m more skeptical about Taylor. He seems more like Mason Miller to me which is still an incredibly productive pitcher. I don’t think Taylor is taking the Sale, Crochet route of ‘building up’ to starting. Hope to be wrong though.

In theory he replaces Dominguez as closer next season....but generating offense has to be far and away the biggest single concern ATM.

This isn't a gotcha question, I am genuinely curious for your explanation. If Cease and Giolito weren't ever realistic extension targets what about Crochet? It became apparent shortly after his breakout that signing him to an extension is something he was interested in and in some ways a prerequisite to trading for him. 6 years 170M is a significant bargain compared his actual value. Is that something the Sox should have done themselves or was the team too far from contention to justify it?
