Cardinals announcers torch umpire over ridiculous power trip

Umpire Doug Eddings stole the show during the Cardinals-Rockies game on Friday night, and not in a good way.

It wasn't just a power trip. I couldn't help but think it was racially motivated.

Yes, that’s likely what Marmol thought. There is no official MLB rule that hats have to be worn straight, which is why Eddings was forced to apologize as well.

Like the Deion Sanders confrontation with Pudge Fisk...old school/conservative 1950's era traditional values clashing with what's cool/er or seemingly fun to younger people.

It's the "pull up your pants" generation getting their anger out.

Tbh, most white people's objection to Tim Anderson was becuase he was proudly black and didn't cowtow or try to please white people.

Based on the double standard of how he was treated around his low points, I fully believe this in a vast majority of cases.

Sure you can. His opinion of how the dude's hat is supposed to be worn, even though there is literally zero guidance for how it should be in the official MLB rulebook, just happens to be go against what non-white culture accepts as OK, a lot of us who know the historic code here, can see through it, even where other's either can't, or don't want to. At the absolute bare minimum, you open yourself up to the question. At worst it is a long running continuation of the viewing of certain cultures and styles as "acceptable" and other others as "you can't wear that hat that way in MY ballgame". And then top it off, when he got called on the ridiculousness of telling a player how to wear his hat, he proceeded to take it out on the team too. Maybe the assumption should be that Eddings is too ignorant of history to realized the shoes he just walked it, but I kind of doubt it with his history. I also know he apologized afterwards, which means he realized he went way too far.
