I've got a buddy who until today was a season ticket holder. He got his letter from the Sox about next year's prices today, and while the Sox did not give all the details you'd like to know, here's what it did say. Starting in 2004 the Sox are designating Friday, Saturday, Sunday and the Cubs series as Premium tickets, for the areas between the bases, at all levels. Yes even the upper deck. The letter did not specify per game cost, just gave him his bottom line. And that went from last year's $2025 to next year's $2520, per seat. They also want a deposit of $500 per seat payed by 12/15. Last year the deposit was $100.

Now, they say that there's still a discount that has been applied, so you can't really figure out the cost of a Thursday game vs. a Friday game yet, but overall his average ticket cost is now $31.11 per game, compared to last year's $25. I imagine the premium price is around $40, but that's a guess.

Bottom line - 3 season tickets just got unsold today.

BTW parking did not go up.

So it looks like the outfield is still the best place to sit, value wise.

 

I didn't get my invoice yet, I've got bleacher seats, weekend plan. I'd heard they were considering changing the composition of the weekend plans.

They better start acquiring some decent ballplayers or this Organization can go f*** itself. Raise ticket prices for what? Seeing Bartolo, Everett, Flash, and maybe Maggs or C Lee go? Or to see Botch, Harris, Rowand, and a starting pitcher yet to be named?

The only reason I think they are raising the ticket prices is to cover for those lost seats that weren't used much anyways...I won't be at many games this year, since I hope to be having a place of my own by August.

I'll still go to Spring Training, buy the XTRA innings package and watch each game they play in Anaheim.

I think it's great that you folks who live in Chi are waiting to see who we acquire before

I've about had all I can stand with this cheapass organization.

That might do it for most of my ticket buying. I can only go during the weekends usually, and if it is going to cost 25% more to go then, AND they put a s***ty product on the field, I won't be buying many, if any, tickets.

 

What's next not putting the games on TV to protect season ticket holders? Get your head out of you ass JR. Didn't you learn the only two ways to get people into the park are #1 to win and #2 DISCOUNT ticket prices?

The Sox are a bargin in this market. The fans still don't come. They give away FREE tickets, and people don't come. No matter how much you hear about it... it's not about the prices.

I have to disagree about prices not being a factor. They keep raising ticket and parking prices and not giving anything in return, that pisses fans off and the prices are way too high for many. I worked with an engineer who has 4 kids and hates that he can't take his kids to see the Sox because they are big fans, but they can't afford it. They advertise to families, but the prices aren't really all that conducive to families.

 

He tries to make at least one game a year with his kids, but even that is a challenge for him.

But, when your fan base is blue collar, working stiff types, like I believe the Sox' is, pricing is everything! Maybe not getting them out ther once, but getting them back the second, third and fourth times.

I wouldn't give directions to my worst enemies house to most of that crowd. But hey.. what do I know.. I'm only there - give or take - 40 to 50 days a year...

How many mondays/tuesday are there in June, July and August for the upcoming season? I heard there weren't many, but I don't have time to go and count now, I'll check later.

That's besides the point. One question. Why don't they offer half priced kids tickets with the purchase of an adult ticket? I know they do $1 tickets for willie wonka days on Sunday, but what about as a season long promotion? That would definitely make it more affordable to families and give a wider selection of when to go. Just a thought/question.

I'm sure it is.. and without meaning to sound s***ty.. that isn't the Sox problem. The point is that they DO do things to make game affordable for families. Much, MUCH more than a LOT of other clubs.

I go when I can - Opening Day, Mondays, some Tuesdays, and when tickets fall into my hands, and a full price game here and there. I used 4 cause the average is 2.32 kids.. but regardless.. my point is that the Sox ARE much more affordable that other clubs, and a way better deal in THIS market.
