Sox Farm Director Leaves for VP Job in Seattle

Now this is a HUGE BLOW in my opinion. Fontaine was in my mind one of the brightest guys in the organization and the major leauges. I liked him to be a GM one day and I think this really hurts. I sure hope the Sox can find another bright guy to replace him (Goes by Jason ). In all seriousness, this is a huge blow and it will be interesting to see who the Sox hire to replace him.

Damn there's no doubt that this'll be a huge loss, just look at the players he got in Anaheim. Hopefully KW will be able to find a worthy replacement for this very important position in the organisation. We'll all be pullin for ya to get the job Jason, but personally I wouldn't mind it myself. Where can I send my resume into?

I hope that isn't the reasoning behind this. If it is, then Kenny truly is a cancer. His devastating stupidity kills yet another victim.

Jason if you ask me...you can have the job. And I mean this in all honesty, you have a great baseball mind...I consider myself very knowledgeable when it comes to dealings in baseball and whatnot, but you come up with fantastic ideas and workings of trades, etc. that I have never thought of. It's great to have you around here and if that is what you would actually like to do...my best wishes.

I really hate to lose Fontaine. In fact, when the rumors of KW's demise were flying last season, I was hoping Fontaine would get the GM job.

 

However, Kenny Williams has been a tremendous improvement, imo, over Schuler. He is the first Sox GM that I can remember that actually tries to put a winning team on the field. Granted, Kenny ain't Schurholz, but I have no complaints with him. Some things he's tried have worked, others have blown up in his face. But the fact remains is that he does try.

This one piece in this article worries the hell outta me,

"(Fontaine's) main focus, and almost his sole focus, will be on the draft," Bavasi said.

 

Fontaine, who has been in professional baseball for 31 years, spent the last four years as the White Sox's director of player development, overseeing the minor league department and development staff.

 

But scouting is his favorite.

 

"I have been in scouting for most of my career and this is what I love to do," he said. "There are not many jobs that allow you to look into a crystal ball."

 

 

The last thing we need is to stuff up our drafts.

Sorry when I read your post it just popped into my mind so I had to post it, gotta love these boring sundays.

Thanks Kark...hopefully one day I'll be able to run a baseball team. I think it would be pretty cool and I'm confident if somehow I meet the right person, it will happen and hopefully I could lead the Sox to greatness

The White Sox have hired intern Jason Gage to be the President of Scouting Development.

Gage, who serves his days as a college student and moderator of his own website, soxtalk.com, was hired by KW for his advanced scouting skills.

Terms of the deal where not announced, but the media does know that Kenny Williams is paying out of his dogs ass.

Jason ... seriously, if I were you and you really wanted to do something in baseball administration, I'd find out who the Sox scouts are in So. Cal and write them and ask for a 15 minute phone conversation. Find out what they're looking for in players and maybe ask if you could meet them at a game or something and help file a report.

 

And then, submit a report of your own to KW or the head of the scouting dept. If they see you know your stuff, you could easily land a part-time scouting assignment, even if it's on an independent basis, i.e. "pay for assignment".

 

Organizations are always looking for solid people. This is something I know from being a human resources exec for 15 years. If you demonstrate a willingness to learn, are eager and have a positive attitude, you will get your opportunity. Scouting is the backbone of baseball and every baseball executive has experience in scouting. Since you live in So. Cal, you have lots of opportunity to see guys that the major league teams are scouting.

 

The fact that you've been involved with this web site should defintely get you noticed and get your foot in the door.

Thanks for the info Jim. I think I'll try that out over the summer. I wanted to get an intership with the Angels this past season, but they wanted you to be a Junior in college. Don't know what I would of done, but scouting would be cool if it was on an assignment basis.

Better yet ... you write the letter, indicating you want an opportunity to do some part-time or "pay for assignment" scouting for the Sox ... I'll edit it if necessary, and I'll hand carry it to the Sox admin. offices. I'm in Bridgeport once a week.

Sounds great Jim...I got one more week of school then the week after that finals. Once they are over, i'll sit down and write a letter up, rework my resume and cover letter (I have one written already for applying for an internship with the Angels, so I shouldn't have to make too many changes on it).
