Vlad Guerrero

Looks like the Vlad era with the Expos is ova. Possibilities r the Angels and Baltimore.

MONTREAL -- The end of Vladimir Guerrero's career with the Montreal Expos arrived Sunday night, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports.

After one last attempt to sign Guerrero to a long-term deal failed this weekend, the club declining to offer the All-Star outfielder salary arbitration Sunday night.

That effectively ends their opportunity to negotiate with him. He would be unable to return before May 1.

"We worked hard at extending our relationship with Vladimir, including a revised offer on Friday that sparked further discussions," said Expos general manager Omar Minaya, who had traveled to the Dominican Republic last week.

The Expos had offered Guerrero a heavily backloaded five-year contract for more than $70 million Friday. But when he and agent Fernando Cuza declined, they essentially cut their ties, Stark reported.

Minaya, in the Dominican Republic on a scouting trip, never visited with Guerrero.

A four-time All-Star, Guerrero hit .330 with 25 homers and 79 RBIs last season. He was on the disabled from June 6 to July 21, missing 39 games because of a herniated disc.

Baltimore is among the teams thought to be interested in the 27-year-old outfielder.

Montreal also declined to offer salary arbitration to infielder Todd Zeile, third baseman Fernando Tatis, first baseman Wil Cordero and right-hander Jose Mercedes.

What cheap assholes MLB and Selig is. If they were going to do anything good for that team they would of at least offered arbitration because there is no chance Vladdy will accept it. Well I guess they must of been worried that he would of, but I'd have to think the odds are much much greater that they would be picking up at least a few draft picks.

If the Expos were gonna lose them, then they should of dealt him for something at the deadline. What a joke...baseball owning a team.

Hopefully if Vlad gets picked up by the Angels, Colon's got nowhere else to go and has to resign with da Sox. But they only way that happens is if they move Erstad to 1B, or ship him or Tim Salmon outta there.

wow so now the Spos are minus Vlad and Vazquez...Comiskey might be the one stadium that is more full than MTL this year...

:D But seriously, I think the Brewers might fall behind the Spos next season with all of their financial problems. It is so sad that they lost Vlad--he was definitely the fan favorite up there, and those fans deserved to not get hosed for once. Poor, poor Yuppi.

What would Tatis cost?

The Expos lost their two best players in a week. What reason would anyone want to buy them now?

To keep them in Montreal. Contrary to what is reported and commonly thought, there is a rock solid fan base up there, albeit small.

Once again the asses running MLB screw up. How do they expect to move the Expos without their only superstar player?

I have always been a fan of the Expos because of Vlad. Definetly my favorite player outside of the sox. He is simply amazing.

They can't stay in MTL. The stadium is awful, no one wants to play on the cement. Plus the Canadian teams have to pay salaries in American dollars, yet make money in Canadian dollars. The Expos will be moved, just a matter of time. All Canadian teams, in all sports, are having the same problems.

Yeah unfortuantely that's a major problem with sports up here, Canadian team havin to pay with American Dollars. The team does hav a fan abse in Montreal but it isn't financially viable to stay there much longer. They'll move to Washington or Portland if Peter Angelos gets his way.

MLB BETTER MAKE A MOVE FAST WITH THIS TEAM, BECAUSE IT IS A JOKE THAT THEY OWE A TEAM. JUST MAKE A DECISION WASHINGTON DC, NORTHERN VIRGINIA, PORTLAND, OR EVEN LAS VEGES, NEW JERSEY. JUST DO IT ALREADY!

Since we're not going to sign Colon i think we should beef up the Offense.

Sign VLAD

outfield = MAGGS + VLAD + LEE = Unstoppable

No need for green... if that happened id run outside and go crazy. Vlad is the MAN.

Vlad+Maggs= :headbang

It's green because tht would mean that they would have to field all nine positions and pitch because we would be able to afford another signle player..

It is truly a joke that MLBB has owned the Expos for this long. I could see for six months to straighten out the bag of worms up there, but this is ridiculous;

I wish JR had the ovaries to go after this kid.
