December 9, 200322 yr Yes-- I see him next year as a go-to-guy in the pen... come in when the s*** hits the fan and clean up the mess...I think if he can prove over the course of a season working as a righty-stud (like GAGNE) he can become our future closer. I don't ever see him winning a Cy Young but being an EFFECTIVE reliever. Look at his splits for Reliever vs. Starter last year. He is more EFFECTIVE out of the pen Mac's a little faster than me... December 9, 200322 yr LOts of people in the Sox organization think he can be a solid closer (like Rocky Freakin Biddle, maybe). The challenge will be to get Wright to buy into it. Word is that he wants to remain a starter. Who knows, why? Maybe because starters generally make more jack. But they need to convince him this team needs him in the pen.

He just flat out impresses me with a great fastball and a very good knuckle curve. I think he could turn into a DOMINANT reliever. He looked pretty good out of the pen last year. I really see him turning into a horse of a reliever and I do agree with a lot of the Gagne comparisions. There was another guy I was always high on and hoping the Sox would get. Damn if Wright could pull a Gagne...wow.

I've said on my other board that if Danny is at 95-96 he could be a good closer but danny has no fastball
December 9, 200322 yr man, all i know is that danny has 3 good pitches, a great fastball ( and it is 94mph), a really good curveball, and an average change-up. he had one problem, NO CONTROL, and i mean what so ever. put him in the Pen and he will impress. I'll never forget when he got Cotts out of that huge jam when they were playin the angels (bases loaded, less than 2 outs, and he held them to 1 or no runs) thats damn impressive!

If his fastball has sooo hard he would be able to blow some people away which he can't Rex help me here
December 9, 200322 yr You guys are taking some serious drugs. Wright has been consistently around 89-91 for the last 2 years. When he first came up he was hitting 93-96, but that was a LONG time ago. In addition to average velocity he has no fricking control. Throw him in the pen if you like, but if he's starting for us next year we are in deep s***.

December 9, 200322 yr I said it before, serious drugs. Lemme know what you guys are on. I keep track on the velocity of each pitcher - I actually write dowm the speeds of each fastball. (You can ask the guys from josh's regular message boards) Biggest loss of velocity of a Sox pitcher in last few years is poor Danny Wright.

He may have. But he's consistently in the 89-91 range with no control. If a pitcher reaches back he may hit higher speeds but what counts is consistent velocity which Danny is about 89-91. If wright was at 96 consistently he would blown a few guys away when in trouble, which he couldn't. Yes when he first came up he threw hard but he lost velocity
