Ponson better than Colon

Featured Replies

And K.Millwood blows them both away.

Actually, signing Ponson would be better.  Although he is a little chunky, he isn't as chunky as fat ass Colon.  Also, his numbers were better this year than Colon.  And to top it off, he is younger at 27 years old.  Here's links to the two stats:

-Sidney Ponson :D  :D  :D

-Bartolo Colon :fyou  :finger

OK, now this is just getting rediculous. Ponson IS NOT better than Colon. Period. You are telling me with one game to win, you would put Sidney Ponson out there over Bartolo Colon? NO f***ING WAY.

Maybe not with one game, but over a full season and signing of 3-years, why go for a guy whose stats got worse last year. Colon will be injured soon with his short-armed pitching motion. Anyways, look at the stats, who one more and had a lower ERA?

People have been saying Colon is an injury risk for years. I have yet to see it happen. As for Ponson he has had one good year. Colon is a proven horse and big time pitcher. I go for the stud everytime. Ponson just hasn't shown that yet.

Ponsons only had one good year. And Colon does everything needed when s*** counts. Sept 2 and Sept 13 against the BoSox, he was incredible. Id much rather have Colon...

And don't forget that Jose Lima is better than both of them. Lima Time anyone?

All Ponson is is a fat Jon Garland. And in a perfect world, JG would be our #5 starter or (preferably) our long reliever..... not our #3.

But Ponson is a knight of Aruba!!!

Lets get Kingsale then. I forget who the third was but, we should get him too.

Yeah and so was Calvin Maduro

Lol Josh, thanks for some insightful information :D

Yeah and so was Calvin Maduro

LOL!! What are friends for :D

Well if it turns out to be Ponson and Guardado or another stud reliever instead of Colon then I'd say you got a legit case.

I like Ponson. I like the fact that he's young, I like the fact that he has good stuff and I like the fact that he's been improving each of the past few seasons, but he's no Colon...yet.

They both are very similar pitchers though.

Great line. I never thought of that, but I thorougly agree.

I do not like Ponson.

Why do we want him so bad?

Are we never going to rest til we get Weaver and Ponson?

I dislike both.

And K.Millwood blows them both away.

Millwood is better than Colon? Are you serious? So much for you being a frugal straight shooter who knows what's up....

Millwood has a higher career ERA than Colon despite pitching in better pitcher's parks and offense-light NL all his life.

And whomever said Ponson is better than Colon is crazy as well. Now, Ponson is YOUNGER than Colon, had a better 2003 and will make just a little over HALF of what Bartolo is gonna get...So he is a better option, but Bartolo is a better pitcher.

Yes, if I was needing a pitcher for one game I would choose Colon. However, I feel Millwood or Ponson would be better long term options.

Maybe. But Ponson is not better than Colon like someone tried to say, without looking at the facts and because he's ticked cause colon could be gone. I think starting a whole thread about something that's not possible is ludacrist. But.....

I think this thread was started simply because Colon is gone. Sometimes people try to paint a masterpiece, but use watercolors. Bartolo Colon is and has been the better pitcher of the three. Hands down.

I think it's important to differentiate between a "better pitcher" and a "better option":

Colon is a better pitcher than Ponson, with higher upside.

But given other factors, I'd rather have Ponson. You will save up to 6 million, so in essence it's a younger Ponson coming off a better campaign PLUS Odalis Perez PLUS Sullivan-type reliever......VERSUS Bartolo. 3 against 1.

I take the 3.

I think that's one of the most important quality of a good GM to not only understand whose intristic value/talent is greater (and it's much harder than it sounds) but also be able to do the BEST thing for the ball club, often using younger, cheaper players in place of really expensive, but more productive vets because the dropoff in production would pale in comparison to the cost/potential factor.

Bingo. You have to get the most "bang for your buck".
