December 12, 200322 yr From TBO.com, TBO.com Article Carl Everett remained a free agent Thursday, and the Rays remained poised to pursue Jose Cruz Jr. or Juan Gonzalez should Everett decline their contract offer. Nothing tangible came of the discussion Thursday between Everett's agent, Larry Reynolds, and Rays General Manager Chuck LaMar. The discussion is expected to continue today, but the Rays have made it clear that they're willing to move on relatively quickly and want to make at least one signing before the meetings end Monday. Everett, 32, made $9.15 million as an All-Star designated hitter for the Rangers and White Sox this past season, but the Rays are believed to have offered the Tampa native significantly less - something in the $3 million range.
December 12, 200322 yr Did the sox even offer him arbitration. Cause if they didn't I don't think they can sign him. Not sure though.
December 12, 200322 yr Author Nope they didn't. $3 mill is pretty good value though. Would hav got way more than that in arbitration though so the Sox couldn't take that chance, espeically when they're on a budget.
December 12, 200322 yr To answer your question, there is no hope ... they canot negotiate with Jurassic until May 1
December 12, 200322 yr the only hope there is in getting Everett before the season is if he's signed by someone else and then traded to us.
December 12, 200322 yr Isn't there a way around it by signing a minor league contract? I could be very wrong.

JR & KW need to make at least some attempt to keep this guy. If not for him and Alomar's arrival this team would never have woke up and started playing last season.
December 13, 200322 yr JR & KW need to make at least some attempt to keep this guy. If not for him and Alomar's arrival this team would never have woke up and started playing last season. Guys, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but they cannot keep him because they don't have him, can't negotiate with him based on the fact they didn't offer him arbitration. its over, he won't be here.
December 13, 200322 yr Another great trade. Josh Rupe and Anthony Webster should be knocking on the big league door in 2006.
December 13, 200322 yr Another great trade. Josh Rupe and Anthony Webster should be knocking on the big league door in 2006. And maybe you sould be changing your name
December 13, 200322 yr Josh Rupe is the one that got away. And folks like quickman said, this is all a moot point because the Sox can't negotiate with him. I do think it looks like I had Everett priced out right when I said he'd get 5 mill max, but who knows, maybe someone will blow him away with an offer.
December 13, 200322 yr Another great trade. Josh Rupe and Anthony Webster should be knocking on the big league door in 2006. The division was ours for the taking. Adding Carl was a great move. I've seen too many great prospects not pan out to believe not taking that move would have been a bigger mistake.
