i say we sign him to a minor league deal if we can, quality pitcher with a bad year if you dont look at his colorado years.

idk he is coming off of a torn laborm or wut ever that thing is called many pitchers are not able to come back from that. and if we have to give him 1-2 mill i say we take the gamble. there is nothing really else out there besides ponson

Mike Sirotka had a torn labrum as well, and he has yet to resurface in the majors. Last time I heard about him, he was in the minors with the Cubs AAA team.

 

I don't know how many pitchers have come back from that injury, but I would guess not a whole lot.

I would definitely take a flyer on Astacio. No injury is insurmountable anymore.

 

Except maybe decapitation. Can't play after that.

As far as I know, he still has a torn labrum. Never wanted to sit out a year and get surgery on it.

Incentive laden deal is all I would be willing to offer.

Someone will put out money for this guy dispite his injuries. If not I have no problem offering a very ELo like deal, low money for one year, with a much bigger option for a 2nd year.

I believe that in years past we have had an interest in Pedro Astacio. Now we can afford him. I don't know about his present health, but if he is recovered from the injury that sidelined him he might be worth an incentive laden contract.

Yeah I do remember going after him....I think it may have been before the '01 season if I remember correctly.

I don't remember where I read it, but it seems that I remember once reading about how they first diagnosed him with a rotator cuff injury and then when he went under the knife they found his labrum all torn to hell as well.

thats the way i remember the siro surgery too....he had like 3 MRI's before anything showed up..then when they opened up his shoulder it was all shot to hell..he was probably pitching on a bum arm for a while just figuring the pain was normal

I kept thinking that Astacio was going to be the next Pedro Martinez, but his injury problems are baffling. Not to mention he's getting shelled when he's out there, even away from Colorado.
