January 27, 200422 yr from the Bergen Record... Erickson, who had Tommy John surgery and missed all of last season, worked out last week for about 20 teams in Arizona. Erickson threw in the 87-89 mph range, attracting the interest of several teams, including the Mets. The Mets continued to negotiate with Erickson on Monday. "Nothing is imminent at this point," said Josh Goldberg, director of communications for the Beverly Hills Sports Council, the agency that represents Erickson. "I know the Mets are interested." Goldberg said Erickson is listening to offers from eight teams, including the Mets. In 12 seasons, the 35-year-old Erickson has a 140-128 record with a 4.51 ERA. If signed to a minor league deal, Erickson would likely compete with Grant Roberts, Aaron Heilman, and Tyler Yates for the fifth spot in the rotation. I hope that we are at least gonna try to make an effort to sign this guy, I think he would make a good addition to our club...living out of baltimore by about 45 minutes i got to see this guy pitch a lot and had good stuff and he was sorely missed last year by the O's.
January 27, 200422 yr if we get in a bidding war with the mets for erickson i dont think we stand a chance..
January 27, 200422 yr Author if we get in a bidding war with the mets for erickson i dont think we stand a chance.. completely agree...no way we can afford to outbid someone for his services
January 27, 200422 yr hmmm. i don't know? he is just coming off tommy john surgery, and he is 35. it usually takes around 1.5-2 years to recover from tommy john. i remember erickson being a sinker ball pitcher. i don't know if 87-89 will cut it unless he has some sort of change up. i don't know if he is worth more than a minor league contract right now, if a bidding war starts i don't think we want to outbid anyone.
January 27, 200422 yr The first time I saw Jon Garland pitch in the Minors, comparisons to Scott Erickson immediately went through my head. There is absolutely no point to that, just a random thought.
January 27, 200422 yr The first time I saw Jon Garland pitch in the Minors, comparisons to Scott Erickson immediately went through my head. There is absolutely no point to that, just a random thought. I have read many scouting reports comparing him to Kevin Brown. This is the first comparison I have seen to Erickson. Who do you think he will turn out to be more like? Erickson or Brown?

January 27, 200422 yr If it makes anyone feel any better I know I heard a report the Sox were one of the teams scouting him.... I believe I heard it on AM 1000

January 27, 200422 yr If it makes anyone feel any better I know I heard a report the Sox were one of the teams scouting him.... I believe I heard it on AM 1000 There was an article on here earlier that said the Sox were one of the eleven teams which watched him workout.
January 28, 200422 yr Sad.. Very Sad when our team has to settle for Manure. Reminds me of Schueler signing Dave Stieb in 1993 thinking he still had it... If Kenny Signs Erickson he needs to be kicked in the Nuts hard
January 28, 200422 yr Well he threw faster than that Cuban guy. At least that's sumthin he got goin for him. But I think he'll sign with a team like Cincinatti where he'll hav da most chance of startin higher in da rotation.
January 28, 200422 yr Erickson is 35 and is Comming off TJ surgery which normally takes 1.5 to 2 years to fully recover. El Duque is toast
