February 5, 200422 yr I understand why he wants these provisions, but it really isn't fair to the team, especially the pitching staff.
February 5, 200422 yr He should've said that before signing. I believe he did... Didn't we talk about this previous also?
February 5, 200422 yr I believe he did... Didn't we talk about this previous also? It was talked about before, but the last report I remember was that he would travel with the team, nothing about allowing him to miss home starts. Then again I might have missed something in the life of that thread.
February 5, 200422 yr It was talked about before, but the last report I remember was that he would travel with the team, nothing about allowing him to miss home starts. Then again I might have missed something in the life of that thread. You're right. It was for road games. I can't get to the link (firewall ) so I'll have to read it later unless someone wants to post the story...
February 5, 200422 yr so he misses a few starts... as long as the ones he misses are not against the chubs :fthecubs
February 5, 200422 yr Well hopefully he makes somewhere between 22-25 starts this year. The Astros pitching is so good and deep that they could get by with that...
February 5, 200422 yr The Astros's realyy wanted Clemens and if one of the stipulation was that he may miss a game or two then thats a chance the Stors took. It just a different kind of perk in his contract. I don't think the other starters will be upset. Ever contarct is different.
February 6, 200422 yr Keep in mind that the "shuffling" of their rotation may knock a few guys out of rhythm - which could hurt their team chemistry. I still think Pettite and Clemens are in for a rude awakening once they get a real taste of that stadium. It'a a homer haven. If they don't live up to expectations, and they might not, then the Cubs will excel in that division. That makes me very upset and angry. :banghead
February 6, 200422 yr I'd take Clemens for our staff under those conditions. In a heartbeat. Plus we have to remember that the Astros are actually considering Clemens their 4 or 5 starter. At least that's been some of the comments I've read down here. I find it hard to believe, perhaps taking some pressure off Clemens for thos provisions. My guess is if Houston is in the race after the All-Star game Clemens is too competitive to sit home.
