Saturday News and Notes From Louisville

Louisville, KY - After once being hailed as the future ace of the White Sox staff, Knights pitcher Jon Rauch looks to be on his way out of the Charlotte rotation. Currently, the Knights rotation is scheduled to be Jason Grilli, Felix Diaz, Dan Wright, Josh Stewart and Enemencio Pachecho/Ryan Kohlmeier, with no apparent spot for Rauch. Of course, with the recent injury to Pachecho and the possibility of Diaz being called up as early as May 15th to face the Minnesota Twins, it is possible that Rauch could see a few more starts in Charlotte. However, there has been confirmation from a member of the Knights locker room that Rauch will be moved to the bullpen in the near, if not immediate future.

Wunsch update: Kelly Wunsch pitched two innings Saturday night in Louisville, giving up one earned run while striking out three batters. With the White Sox keeping to their claim that they will keep their bullpen as is, it appears Wunsch is either destined for a trade or the more likely scenario of being outrighted to Charlotte. Wunsch was never placed on the forty man roster with the Milwaukee Brewers and has all of his options in tact, which means the Sox could send him to Charlotte for the rest of the season. The least likely scenario for Wunsch's future is being released by the Sox, which would yield the Sox nothing for the valuable lefty handed specialist.

Reed is for real: While it wasn't the best hitting night of the season for Jeremy Reed by any means, Sox fans certainly have something to be excited about in the near future. Reed went 1 for 5 Saturday night, saving his best at-bat for the ninth inning, when he singled back up the middle. After speaking with Knights hitting coach Gregg Ritchie, it's apparent that Sox fans have reason to be excited about Reed's future.

"You'll never beat Jeremy the same way twice. He gets better the more times he faces a pitcher. Last week when he faced Joe Valentine in Charlotte, Valentine beat him with an inside pitch and I told Jeremy that he was going to try and beat him the same way tonight. You saw what he did in that first at-bat with the inside pitch," said Ritchie. Ritchie was speaking of the ball that was crushed by Reed in the first inning, but caught in right field for an out.

"The two things that impress me most about Jeremy are his swing, where he always gets the head of the bat level to the ball and his mental approach," Ritchie added. "Most of the guys at this level have a hard time overcoming the mental approach, but that's not a problem for Reed."

There may be something wrong with his arm, he hasn't been going deep into games at all this yeear.

I'd like to see wright in the pen though.

I thought that too and looked it up........ no one at Charlotte has gone deep into games this year. Rauch's 33.1 IP in 6 starts isn't much different from Stewart, Kohlmeier or even Diaz. Diaz was tops at 39 IP, I believe.

I see bajenaru's stats why is he not in AAA ball ?

Welcome aboard. I think a few of us are perplexed but the Knights pen is so crowded their isn't any room, at least not yet.

If he keeps kicking butt though, they will have to make room.
