In his chat on espn.com today he picked the Bears for last place in the North and was asked in the NFL which team will lose the most in 2004 and his answer.....suprise the Bears, I know the Bears are not going to the Super Bowl but there are worst teams in NFL than Chicago.

The second part of that is assinine -- Although I think the North is wide open, and the Bears have as good a shot at finishing first as they do of finishing in last --

The bears record will largely be determined by thier ability, or lack thereof, to adapt to the new systems. I can guarentee they don't finish with the worst record in football.

^yeah that^

the 49ers are by far the worst team in the NFL right now. and cheat's right, the bears could easily finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd, OR 4th in the north, it's wide open.

Chris Mortensen is to Bill Parcells and the Dallas Cowboys what Peter Gammons is to the New York Yankees.

Mortensen's a clown. Pay no attention to his clueless predictions.

Shut up. First of all, Mortensen works in Atlanta, genius. ATLANTA. Second of all Gammons works for the f***ing Boston Globe. Are you retarded, or did you just happen to not know this.

I'm getting so f***ing sick of paranoid Chicago fans thinking the media is out to get them. Get a f***ing life and learn how to deal with being the second city.

The Bears are very hard to predict, they could win 6 to 10 games, it all depends on Grossman and how fast he develops as the QB. At least Mort is betta than sum ESPN idiots like John Clayton and Fat Man Len Pasquerrli. ;)

Yes, I was quite aware that Mortensen is based out of Atlanta and used to (or still does) work for the Atlanta Journal Constitution. And I also remember Peter Gammons writing for the Boston Globe and USA Today. But thank you for your kind words and sentiments.

I've also seen other ESPN writers and commentators such as Sean Salisbury, John Clayton, & Len Pasquarelli say the Bears made significant improvements without predicting where they'll finish. But excuse the hell out of me if I don't take Mortensen seriously. After all, he was one of the few "geniouses" that was in favor of the Bears keeping Dick Jauron. And please, by all means, please do look for a Mortensen article that doesn't mention in some breath, either Bill Parcells, Jerry Jones, or the Dallas Cowboys.

But you know what; you're right. Mortensen is the first and last authority on the NFL. And I must be a retard for not knowing that.

I'm glad you see it my way.

Yes, I'll agree with everything you, Mortensen, and ESPN says. You have Chicago's best interests in mind.

Spiff... Im not really sure where this came from, but I dont think there is anything wrong with what ChiSoxFan said... Chicago is a city of alot of pride, and we dont like it when were cast as being the worst at anything... is it a complex where we dont like to be second best? maybe, but we dont deserved to be insulted because of it...

No I'm sick of people on these boards acting like everyone in the media is out to get them. Here's what Mortensen said, I actually bothered to go look it up.

Jeff (Boston, MA): Mort, with all your predictions of teams doing so well, is anyone gonna lose this year??

Chris Mortensen: The Bears. I think they'll lose more than they win. The Chargers. The Cardinals. The 49ers. That's all I have for now. Seriously, I haven't even given it much thought these days.

"They'll lose more than they win", he says, and people take that to mean they'll be the worst team in the league. Just another example of how people create their own bias.

Chicago doesn't like to be cast as the worst at anything? Well that is too bad, considering the Bulls and Blackhawks were second worst in their entire leagues, the Bears needed a late-season surge to even get close to .500, and the baseball teams haven't won a World Series in a combined 183 years. It is not the media's fault that the teams in this city are bad, yet somehow when anyone says they are bad, people get all offended.

And 2 questions before that comment was this:

"Trent, St. Louis: what about the Bears, can they move up in the North?

Chris Mortensen: I don't see it. If you're a Bears fan, you're going to just have to let them surprise you. realistically, I have to slot 'em fourth behind the Pack, Vikes and Lions. "

So we aren't acting like the media is out to get us. He made this comment and losing your division means you are one of the worst teams in the league. How is that an exmple of "how people create their own bias"? You tried to create a bias by not listing all of the facts, though.

LOL, looks like SoxFest is experimenting with his own special brand of yellow journalism.

I think we've got a 9-7 Bears team next year. This team may be capable of putting serious points on the board. Grossman has the best center-guard-right tackle combo in football, IMO, and Jones and Thomas are a nice 1-2 punch in the backfield. If the revamped D-Line can stop the run, the Bears could make the playoffs.

Wow the Bears are diffentley not the worst team in Football!!!!! There's at least 5+ worst, at least!

What more do you want sunshine his 1st answer to the question was the BEARS

It was a live chat, and he just had a question about the NFC North like two questions before that. It's not like he had time to sit there and put them in order.

What are you talking about, in the NFL his 1st answer to losing in 2004 was the Bears.

I agree with ya Spiff. The Bears are a bad team on paper and there is little to think otherwise IMO. It is somewhat reasonable to think they can be decent again, but they aren't going to be a great team this year. Face it people the Bears are not a good football team. The media isn't being biased about that. Mortensen gave his opinion, what's wrong with that? Does he have to say the Bears are going to go to the playoffs. That would be more ridiculous than saying they are going to be the worst team in the league. He didn't even say they were going to be the worst team in the league.
