June 13, 200421 yr Isn't it great to have 4 certified all stars? They're certifiable. MB and Thomas should certainly be going. CLEE certainly has a good chance to go but I think name recognition is gonna hurt Uribe and he wont make the cut. I hope I'm wrong though.
June 13, 200421 yr Author Carlos Lee ain't an All-Star, end of story. He's been playing like one, though!
June 13, 200421 yr He's been playing like one, though! Being an all star is overrated.......playing like one is what counts.
June 13, 200421 yr He's been playing like one, though! Just because he has a 27 game hitting streak going for him doesn't make him an All-Star. He's lacking the power numbers.
June 13, 200421 yr Author Just because he has a 27 game hitting streak going for him doesn't make him an All-Star. He's lacking the power numbers. That's true. And besides, realistically, he can't compete with the Itchy Rolls, the Vlad "I piss on my hands although you'll never hear me say it" Guerreros, the Gary "I misplayed balls back in Milwaukee on purpose" Sheffields, etc. But if this hitting streak continues, he has a shot at making it this year, despite the power outage.
June 13, 200421 yr A guy who deserves to go but most likely has NO shot is Shingo. When's the last time he gave up a run? HELL, when's the last time he gave up a HIT??? Maybe if he had gotten into the closer role sooner he could have 7-10 saves by now and maybe get some consideration, but it's way too late for that now.
June 13, 200421 yr Author A guy who deserves to go but most likely has NO shot is Shingo. When's the last time he gave up a run? HELL, when's the last time he gave up a HIT??? Maybe if he had gotten into the closer role sooner he could have 7-10 saves by now and maybe get some consideration, but it's way too late for that now. He is next in line. Hopefully, come August, we'll be talking about 5 certified all stars. Hell, if Kong keeps this up, we'll have 6.
June 13, 200421 yr Isn't it great to have 4 certified all stars? They're certifiable. Lee is not going anywhere. Guillen, Matsui, Lawton, Manny are all ahead of him.
June 13, 200421 yr Where's the love for Jose? Have Uribe go as a 2Bman, Jose as a SS. I can think of a few SS's who have had solid years(Eckstein, Guillen, Tejada, Young), but Jose really is a top 2 or 3 SS in the league right now. And you all wanted him castrated for making a few errors in April and May.
June 13, 200421 yr Unless Valentin is over 900 OPS (and with his stupid approach, he will never be), he won't have a chance. Carlos Gullen should be AL's starting SS. Michael Young should be the reserve. But as usual, Nomar will start, with Tejada backing him up.
June 13, 200421 yr Being an all star is overrated.......playing like one is what counts. Being voted a starter is greatly over rated, having your own manager select you is greatly over rated,
June 13, 200421 yr If Marte keeps on having good outings he could go as well.. Not a chance. He's been a bad pitcher this season - gave up a ton of other people's runs and had a hand in quite a few Sox losses. He'd literally have to go on a 20 inning scoreless streak to edge out Keith Foulke - Gordon and Rivera are shoe-ins.
June 13, 200421 yr Which all are righties as well. 20 scoreless streak ey.. I could see it but you are right. If shingo's era keeps going down, does he have a shot?
June 14, 200421 yr Uribe should be a lock. Other than Soriano he has been at the top of the 2B class in the AL. MB will probably be there and although Thomas is more than worthy he wont go. Torre will screw him again and instaed drag along Derek Jeter as his 3rd SS and several other of his guys that dont deserve it
June 14, 200421 yr Author Although Thomas is more than worthy he wont go. There's just no way. He's in there for certain if he can maintain a 1.100 OPS. Torre can not possibly be that stupid.
June 14, 200421 yr Unless Valentin is over 900 OPS (and with his stupid approach, he will never be), he won't have a chance. Carlos Gullen should be AL's starting SS. Michael Young should be the reserve. But as usual, Nomar will start, with Tejada backing him up. I agree. That's why voting should be taken away from the fans, or the game should be an exhibition, none of this home-field s***.
June 14, 200421 yr Frank is the best 1B in the American League, hands down. Who's putting up better numbers? Ortiz has more RBIs Here's your AL 1B rankings: 1) Frank 2) Ortiz 3) Hafner 4) Sweeney 5) Konerko
June 14, 200421 yr Uribe should be a lock. Other than Soriano he has been at the top of the 2B class in the AL. Uribe has been better than Soriano this season, and by the time ASB rolls around, Texas should be under .500.
June 14, 200421 yr I'm just glad that we can make a solid argument for so many guys deserving to play in the all-star game. I really don't care that much about who goes and who doesn't. Just as long as the guys keep up their solid seasons. I'll be more than happy with that.
June 14, 200421 yr Shingo for Rookie of the Year He would have a shot had he started the year as the closer. Who knows, if he ends up with 25-30 saves and sports an era under 2 he could very well have a shot.
