I agree with ya about the momentum thing but that division is competitive up and down with the exception of the Pirates. It's gonna be a horse race all season because you are going to have several fairly good teams beating themselves over the head with intra-divisional games.

Cardinals have proven they can't beat the New Cubs in the last 2 years. Given injuries to Sosa, Wood and Prior, Astros would have been up by 10-12 games if they were SERIOUS about winning. They are losers until proven otherwise, even Oswalt is getting shelled lately. Phillies are even bigger losers and Padres/Dodgers/Giants scare noone. The only hope is that Astros and Cards get on an unbelievable streak and keep the Cubs out of the playoffs. Amen.

Prior's breaking pitch is sharp, fastball is well located; this spells trouble for Houston hitters. A predetermined pitch count may be the only force which halts Prior tonight.

All they need is a healthy Sosa and Wood, and there is not a team in NL or AL that can stop them. I am sure Hendry is gonna add Urbina or some other stud reliever to help Hawkins, Reminger and Farnsworth out. Then I would try to get a true lead-off hitter to push Todd Walker back in the #2 hole. And they're set. Now let's all bow our heads together and pray for terrible, 2001 Sox type luck on the Cubs.

They've got the Astros, A's, Cards, White Sox, Astro's again and the Phillies. If they're in first after all that, then I agree they're a team to seriously worry about.

All they did this past offseason was get a damn good 1Bman, add Todd Walker, sign LaTroy Hawkins, and get Greg Maddux. They won something like 90 games with Shawn Estes as their #5 with Matt Clement struggling most of the year. Clement has figured his s*** out, Zambrano is filthy, Wood and Prior are dominant, and Maddux is a solid pitcher. If they add another reliever, they could be the team to beat in the NL. You know what that means. Time for us to get another starter, a stud reliever, and Steve Finley, and watch Oz-ball take form. Watch us get the clutch hits that are needed to be gotten, and get the huge pitching performances when our backs are up against the wall. And to this day, I still think a Cubs-White Sox World Series would be great for baseball, but terrible for the city of Chicago...like literally. It's amazing how Sox fans can delude themseleves into believing that Cubs aren't the best team in NL talent-wise..........These New Cubs aren't your dad's lovable losers - Tribune company has finally figured out that WINNING brings them even more money gravy than perennial cost-cutting and losing even could in the last 95 years. Derek Lee reached base 9 consecutive times and is heating up like he usually does in June. Choi who? Hawkins is Hawkins. After a slow April start, looks like Maddux is very solid again - would be a great #5. Walker is a pro. Cubs also have Aramis Ramirez for the whole season and unfortunately Clement might not get injured until next year. They are already the team to beat. I knew that when Glendon Rusch effortlessly beat Matt Morris. The only reason why Cubs aren't 15 over .500 is because Sosa, Wood, Prior, Walker, Grudzelanek, Remlinger have missed some serious time and they had to use bums like Jackson, Macias, Rusch, Mitre, Ordonez, etc. You know what that means. Time for us to get another starter, a stud reliever, and Steve Finley, and watch Oz-ball take form. Oh no s***. 2001-2003 miserable failures were terrible because you just knew deep down inside that Cubs were one competent GM away from turning their whole history around and Sox better win the World Series after 2000 because Cubs were gonna make a serious run at it in the new century. Not only do Sox need to go deep in the playoffs in 2004, but they also need for Cubs to have some really bad injuries such as Wood being shelved for the year and Alou being out for the season and Sammy having a recurring back problem and possibly Prior ending on the DL with inflamation.....only then will the hapless Cardinals and Astros have a shot at keeping the Cubs out of the postseason. Cubs in the playoffs = bad, bad, bad thing for Soxdom. Don't let any moron suggest otherwise.
