June 29, 200421 yr Just throwing his name out there into the mix of catchers that have been mentioned. I heard his name come up in rumors with Seattle sending Gil Meche to Detroit. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6681
June 29, 200421 yr Inge just got hurt, I believe. He won't be going anywhere for now. But if healthy, He would help fill Olivo's role nicely.
June 29, 200421 yr A lot of people on here have been mentioning him. It's a good idea. Not a lot - just me and Jason.
June 29, 200421 yr Author Not a lot - just me and Jason. I Didn't want to read through 7 pages about jason kendal when I know he's not coming here. I'd, no doubt be drawn to respond to somebody in that thread.... That thread is a trap.
June 29, 200421 yr Not a lot - just me and Jason. i mentioned him http://www.soxtalk.com/index.php?act=ST&f=...ndpost&p=394505
June 29, 200421 yr well if we are interested in urbina 2 we could get them both in 1 deal which would not only give us a good catcher but another bullpen arm but i still rather have shingo as closer over urbina
June 30, 200421 yr Just throwing his name out there into the mix of catchers that have been mentioned. I heard his name come up in rumors with Seattle sending Gil Meche to Detroit. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6681 I really don't see why we are worried about catcher now, we won't get burned every single time at second base...
June 30, 200421 yr Detroit wouldn't take Meche for Inge, shows you how much they rate him. I think Meche is just what the Tiggies need though.
June 30, 200421 yr Inge is such a great catcher the Tigers wouldn't let him catch the last several years Josh Paul offered (and right now still offers) more than Brandon Inge ever will - So do a lot of people - that's why no one trades with the Tigers especially for the players that the Tigers wouldn't let play their position. Trammel has been having him play every position but catch since he has been manager and before that Inge was just roller coasting between the minors and majors because he was injury free and couldd't hit worth a damn and was not much of a catcher at all but he was a live body to put there and he tries really heard and you can't help but like him, the little knucklehead but he ain't no major league player If anyone thinks Inge isn't catching because of IRod and Inge is some kind of worthwhile player... well, I can tell you don't know nor watch much Tiger baseball.
June 30, 200421 yr why would detroit trade their young catcher?? to a division foe???? to sabotage us with a cast off
June 30, 200421 yr Just throwing his name out there into the mix of catchers that have been mentioned. I heard his name come up in rumors with Seattle sending Gil Meche to Detroit. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6681 The Tigers turned down the Meche for Inge deal. However, if they are looking to maybe move Inge, the Mariners no longer would want him. I realize Rauch may not be the prospect Meche is, but he could potentially be swapped for Inge with a mid level prospect going along. I know one thing, I'd love Inge on the southside. He's caught a few gmaes this year and whenever he's behind the plate he shows off a fantastic arm.
June 30, 200421 yr 1. I know one thing, I'd love Inge on the southside. 2. He's caught a few gmaes this year and whenever he's behind the plate he shows off a fantastic arm. 1. Easy to say when you are in California! 2. please pass whatever you are smoking!
June 30, 200421 yr 2. please pass whatever you are smoking! Are you saying he doesn't have a strong arm and a quick release? Are you saying this former SS is not agile enough to block the plate? It seems to me that he's mashing the ball away from Comerica, so maybe he's improving his hitting just a bit?
June 30, 200421 yr yes, yes, and no It's too bad your GM doesn't share your viewpoint. I'd take him on my team any day. You can never have too many talented if unpolished catchers making the league minimum on your team. Make with the Inge, in other words.
June 30, 200421 yr So far this year: 30 RBI in 160 at bats 865 OPS - 958 OPS away from Comerica Obviously not a polished defensive catcher but neither was Olivo. Strong arm, quick release and above average athleticism for the position - former SS and all. If Itzituris can become a ML hitter overnight with nothing more than shortening the stride, why the hell not this guy? He is cheap, clearly stuck behind Ivan "Squareface" Rodriguez....If he can muster 750 OPS over the course of the season, in our park, that's all you ask. Will give Ben Davis some f***ing competition if anything else.
June 30, 200421 yr Make with the Inge, in other words. he's cute but no thank you. I just saw he is on the 15 day DL - and on ESPN it quotes stats inc (whoever the hell they are) as saying Inge is a puzzle. He is strong, athletic and hard working. However, he is perpetually confused about what he is as a hitter. When he first arrived in the major leagues in 2001, he had an inside-out stroke and drove most pitches to right field. Now, he has a conventional approach with a stance that is neither open nor closed, but it hasn't improved his consistency as a hitter. Although he is not big, he does have power. At times, he will turn on a fastball and drive it a surprising distance. Inge's problem is that everything he does well as a hitter rarely shows up. In 840 major league at-bats, he is hitting .198, essentially making him an easy out. Trammel sees a lot in him, obviously but didn't have him catch much last year either - he was opening day catcher in 2001 or 2002 and couldn't hold it - I am trying to find where he played minor league ball - I know I saw him in Grand rapids but not sure if was a White Cap (great name, huh) or a visiting Tiger I have seen Inge a lot on tv and who am I to disagree with you and Jas and Alan Trammel but he seems like the biggest case of potential not making it that I have seen in a long time - almost Ruffcorn like. Seems like a nice guy, if he ever gets it going -
June 30, 200421 yr I have seen Inge a lot on tv and who am I to disagree with you and Jas and Alan Trammel Your opinion of him is not unimportant - you HAVE seen him probably 50 times more than I have -- but it seems to me that you're going by his previous seasons more than this one. Uribe went from not being able to hit in Colorado to respectability almost overnight. Something clicked I guess. By no means do I expect Inge to be anything close to that level, but I think he may have the tools. I figured Inge could be had for a bag of, um, grocery bags - and that would give Sox depth and talent at the catcher position. Could always demote him if he doesn't deliver. Same goes for Ben Davis, btw.
June 30, 200421 yr I am sitting here debating in my mind: potential and non delivery: Inge vs Borchard Inge might be hard to get from the Tigs because he is Trammel's boy but who knows, Trammel ain't GM either
June 30, 200421 yr I am sitting here debating in my mind: potential and non delivery: Inge vs Borchard Inge might be hard to get from the Tigs because he is Trammel's boy but who knows, Trammel ain't GM either Why would Trammel need him - Inge's primary value is as a catcher - he can't hit or field well enough to be a 3B. Squareface is signed for how many years, 4? Unless Tigers plan to trade him...... So, like I said.....Detroit.......Make with the Inge. And a pony, too.
June 30, 200421 yr Why would Trammel need him potential and attitude that's why he has tried him at just about every position
