July 30, 200421 yr Ken Rosenthal Posted: 3 minutes ago The Mets are the winners of the Kris Benson sweepstakes, acquiring the righthander along with two minor leaguers for third baseman Ty Wigginton and Class AA lefthander Matt Peterson. The Twins also wanted Benson, but the talks broke down when Minnesota would not part with Class AAA outfielder Jason Kubel. The Braves also made a last-minute bid and apparently were willing to part with one of their top pitching prospects, believed to be Class AA righthander Jose Capellan. Benson, a free agent at the end of the season, is 8-8 with a 4.22 ERA this season. The Mets likely will attempt to sign him to a contract extension.
July 30, 200421 yr Levine was just on AM1000 just after 5 p.m. and said he wouldn't be surprised if the Sox stood pat. But he also indicated they have been looking hard for a right handed bat (yes, right handed) and there are a couple players they're trying to land. Bautista of Arizona was mentioned.
July 30, 200421 yr Yet the Twins have owned us this month. So we need someone. I hate when Kenny 'stands pat'.
July 30, 200421 yr Wow! Mets just made another trade and got Victor Zambrano (the pitcher I was saying the sox should have gotten earlier in the season) But his price was steep. Mets- Victor Zambrano D-Rays- Scott Kazmir (Their top pitching prospect)
July 30, 200421 yr Damn, they got Victor Zambrano too! And people say we gave up our entire farm system.
July 30, 200421 yr Who is the Mets GM? Jim Duquette. I believe he is Dan Duquette's (the much maligned former GM of the Red Sox) cousin.
July 30, 200421 yr Yet the Twins have owned us this month. So we need someone. I hate when Kenny 'stands pat'. :headshake When has Kenny every 'stood pat'? Kenny will make a move, whether it be before the trade deadline, or before the waiver deadline.
July 30, 200421 yr I'm keeping this avi up too. I am going to change it to Ken and Jerry's Cherry Garcia after the deadline passes.

July 30, 200421 yr Last off-season. What are you talking about? Aquiring Everett and Alomar and Scott Sullivan was standing pat? Just because Kenny makes his move before anyone else does, doesn't mean he stood pat.
July 30, 200421 yr What are you talking about? Aquiring Everett and Alomar and Scott Sullivan was standing pat? Just because Kenny makes his move before anyone else does, doesn't mean he stood pat. Nah...He's talking about November of 2003 until Spring Training of 2004.... However, he's still wrong.
July 30, 200421 yr Get off my ass. November to Spring 2003 is standing pat, there were some good guys out there that could be helping us now...But we stood pat...Takatsu and Politte great pickups, but damn, you can't be 4 GB and not go get anyone at the TD. Getting Garcia is nice, but we left a hole at catcher and without Olivo like it or not there's a hole in the offense.

JR was telling Kenny he actually needed to decrease payroll by a couple million, so if you want to blame someone, blame JR. We'll get off YOUR ass, when you get off Kenny's ass...
