CRAIG, Colo. -- Astros pitcher Roger Clemens was asked to leave a youth baseball game over the weekend for arguing a close call that went against his son's team.

 

Clemens was at the game Saturday watching his son, Kacy, compete in a 10-and-under game organized by Triple Crown Sports when Clemens contested a call at second base that went against the Katy Cowboys.

 

He spit sunflower seeds at an umpire's leg and was asked to leave, said Jim Carpenter, a field supervisor with Triple Crown.

 

"I supported the umpire's decision and he [Clemens] respectfully left," Carpenter told the Craig Daily Press.

 

Katy lost the game 11-5 to the Bakersfield Curve.

 

Triple Crown Sports features a franchise system aimed at pitting top teams from across the country against each other.

 

Clemens' agent, Randy Hendricks, did not immediately return a call Monday. Clemens has racked up 322 wins and 4,240 strikeouts in his 21-year major league career

Roger has been coaching his younger son's team. It is a coaches pitch league and Andy Pettit asked if Roger is dustring back any of those 10 year olds.

Even at a little leauge game, Roger still has that fire if a call doesn't go his way..

Yeah, this doesn't surprise me that Roger would do something like this. However, it's kinda sad that he did. I mean, the kids are 10-and-under. They're just out there to have fun, and Roger's talking it seriously. Save the intensity for the big leagues, Clemens.

During one of Clemens's kids little league games there was a fantom tag on his kid at 2nd base in which the ump called the kid out on. Then according to the ump Clemens spit a sunflower seed at him because of the missed call. However Roger's agent claims that Clemens was signing autographs the whole time. Now on sportscenter they were talking about this and at the end of the story the anchor said "now this brings up the question, a second spitter?" Anyways it's kind of a funny story and it reminds me a lot of the seinfeld episode with the magic loogey.

I would have thrown him out.

I coach a 13-14 yr old team and was ejected from 2 games this year. The baseball player in me says it was totally appropriate and part of the game. The mentor says bad idea. To my credit the kids responded and won both of those games. Umpires need to be exposed to that to improve I think, but some should and will strongly dis agree.

I'm an ump for 11-14 year old house through travel games, and i'd tend to agree to a point.
