I hope so. I hope Sox brass are as big of fans of Jeff as we are, but I have a feelig there not.

Not saying they dont like him, but I dont think he is looked at as some super prospect. I just hope Baj can pitch his way into the pen for next season, because like you, I really want to see him in the pen next year.

Baj reminds me of Jon Adkins. Not a lot of press, but a whole lot of guts and guile. I really think he has a good shot at success. He hasn't looked itimidated at all, which is in direct contrast to just about every other pitcher call up we have seen for years.

Yeah, Adkins with more control.

And Baj's ERA plunged down to 20.25!

That's exactly what I would have said...Baj is going to have quite a battle on his hands though...

Shingo

Adkins

Politte -- I think we'll pick up his option

Cotts

Marte

I think are all pretty much locks to make the pen next season, I don't know if Baj fits into their plans. There's only one spot left, and I think they may be looking at getting a proven closer or other top tier reliever...

The best hope for baj to make next years roster is the Sox not picking up polittes option, since they will essentially fill the same role.

I see Adkins taking over Politte's 7th, 8th inning role. At $1.3 mill, Politte isn't a bargain. Or I'd rather spend his money on a guy like Felix Rodriguez, or go for Benitez as closer. then Shingo could move into setup.

Diaz could likely take over long relief. [Or be used in a trade. the sox would still have Grilli around]

Baj could take over Jackson's spot. With his great control, Ozzie is bound to fall in love with him. [Ozzie likes Cotts and Adkins who give up a lot of BB's and Baj doesn't. If Baj attacks the zone, throws inside a lot, Ozzie and Co. will find room for him next yr]

In fact, Jeff almost looked bored out there tonight.......  I am sure he wasn't, but that's how he looked to me.  I also thought Arnie looked good tonight.

Yeah Munoz looked like a real pitcher out there tonight as well.

More and more I agree with Hawk's philosophy that pitchers coming out of the minors should work out of the pen before they start at the ML level. That way you control the match ups and put them in the situations with the best chance to succeed. It has really seemed to work much better than bringing these guys up and throwing them to the fire.

Yeah we got our asses kicked last night, but I took some real positives from the game :)

With the FA market pretty thin as far as bullpen guys go, it's nice to see some of our young arms do well. They have a much better upside than getting some 36 yr old has been who may be mediocre at best.

If there is one bright side of getting out of the race early [as long as they couldn't make the playoffs anyway], it's that maybe a few young players will step up big and be able to contribute next year. I'd much rather take a talented young guy into spring training [like Baj, Diaz, Valdez] than getting a veteran who is clearly on his decline [Jackson, Robbie].

It worked for Buerhle. Maybe Munoz and Diaz follow suit.
