I see he saved a game tonight pitching more than a inning, without giving up a run. Would that almost be the first time he's done that when pitching more than an inning this season? Gotta be impressed with Cotts' 3 K's as well, even though he gave up a homer, the potential is there for everyone to see.

Even more impressive was him coming in the 8th striking out the tying run at the plate with THE FRISBEE!!!!

For some reason, I doubt it. :D

all the hitter he faces looked confused on their walk to the plate. I figured the only one who had a chance was the last guy up, just because he hasnt seen much major league pitching. But even he looked like a lost puppy, I love shingo

I am really glad the Sox picked up this guy. At first I thought it was kinda dumb but he's proved me wrong. I hope he can do well next year but I have my doubts once again. I wonder how well the hitters will figure him out.

Agree with you on Cotts. He does have potential. I don't want to wait as long for him to realize his as we've waited for Garland but a little patience is in order for Cotts. Adkins has also shown me more than I expected or hoped. He goes after hitters and his ball moves. Koch, Politte, and the departed Mike Jackson really hurt us in the pen this year. As far as Shingo goes, it would be nice to see him finish strong, as many question his late season stamina. I'd like to see the Sox keep him and Marte for set up situations and go out and get a real stud of a closer. Like Keith Foulke maybe? :headbang

They may be able to figure him out, but like Foulke's change...it keeps hitters off balance. And that's what Shingo does. That "Frisbee" he throws confuses everyone...he may give up more hard hits next year, but as long as he changes speeds from 84 to 59, he'll be fine. It's like Tim Wakefield. He has a decent fastball and the knuckleball, but unlike shingo, if the knuckler isn't moving, Wakefield gets KILLED. Shingo's pitches are ALWAYS moving.

I agree, even if everyone knows what pitches are coming, and where they will be located, they are so off balance that its hard to drive any of that stuff to the gaps. It was like last night where Big Ben called that weird fastball on the outside corner, nobody can drive that balls to the gaps

And on Adkins--i cant recall seeing a pitcher for the sox who threw so hard with so much movement on every pitch, he has to be tricky to hit against

I love Shingo

I too am glad the Sox picked him up, but I think they should bring him back only to be a right handed specialist and hopefully they can pick up a closer in the offseson or find one by accident like so many teams do.

What I like about Shingo is that there's no tell, he throws the fastball the same way he throws the frisbee, you gotta see the ball really well to figure out what the hell speed its actually coming at.
