September 9, 200421 yr Should the White Sox go after him???? He has a strong relationship with Jose Contreras. He is only 21 and can play RF. I've heard he is asking for a lot though.

September 9, 200421 yr I'd say go after him although that would be tough competing with the yankees/dodgers/angels....
September 10, 200421 yr get him!!! tell JC to give him a call and come play with his buddies on the ChiSox.
September 10, 200421 yr I wish it was that easy Nothing would please me more than seeing George Steinbrenner giving him a huge contract, and the Morales sucking it up at the Bronx like JC did.
September 10, 200421 yr yeah, and then we could trade Ross Gload for Morales and when he gets in silver and black, he hits 300 home runs and has 1000 RBIs in one season

September 10, 200421 yr The White Sox were one of seven or eight teams that attended a workout wherever he is staying. The NY papers say he wants a lot of money and don't think the Yankees have much interest. He is apparently very slow, and probably a firstbaseman/DH kind of guy. He also is very rusty. He hasn't played in a couple of years. He basically was kicked off the team because of the fear of defection. Most scouts believe he is at least 2 or 3 years away from contributing on a major league team.
September 10, 200421 yr Good to know the Sox were at least at the workout. A few years ago, the Sox would've never bothered to look at a guy like this. We'll need a 1B/DH in a few years anyways, LOL.
September 11, 200421 yr From Jayson Stark: Cuban defector Kendry Morales was a hot enough commodity, based on reputation alone, that more than a dozen teams showed up for a workout he held last week in the Dominican Republic. But while the 21-year-old switch hitter figures to be chased by the Yankees, Red Sox and Mets, among others, he could be more of a project that advertised. "This guy is not an immediate major-league player," said one scout who attended the workout. "He really hasn't played in a couple of years (after being suspended from the Cuban national team over fears he would defect). So it's going to take a lot of time, a lot of at-bats." The scout's lukewarm review of Morales' skills: "Can't run at all. Pretty good stroke. Good kid. Good approach to hitting. Has to play first base. That's his only real position (even though he also played the outfield in Cuba)."
