White Sox Relievers

Featured Replies

Going into Sunday's game, Sox relievers had pitched a combined 423 1/3 innings, the fewest of any bullpen in the American League.

Even with Buehrle leading the league in innings pitched, that is somewhat of a suprise. Our 5th starter had to average about 3 innings per start.

Wow, that is a suprise. Especially considering we were out of it for weeks and weeks. I hope that is part of the off season evaluations. I wonder if it was a philosophy, NL thinking by Oz, no confidence in the long relief and middle relief guys.

I wouldn't exactly have wanted Mike Jackson in there, etc.

exactly. OG had no confidence in any of them (seeing as he is a rational human being).

If Ozzie continues to push starters deep into games because he has no confidence in the bullpen, our staff will suffer devastating injuries. Buehrle's effecient pitch counts may allow him to endure 8 innings of work, but pushing Contreras and Garcia near 115 pitchers every start will initiate trouble.

It's now up to KW to give Guillen reliable relievers this offseason to trust with a one run lead.

Agreed :notworthy

Hopefully this means all of our relievers will start next season fresh. May all their arms be live and their pitches be well located

So where do the IP by Sox starters rank? Are they first?

So where do the IP by Sox starters rank?  Are they first?

Well buehrle and garland are are 1st and 6th. If you combine contreras and loaiza's innings pitched with the sox this year they would be 19th. Then if you combine garcia's and schoeneweis's innings pitched this year for the sox they would rank 14th. No team has more than two pitchers within the top 20 of innings pitched and we have 4. So i would say if we add in all the s***ty starts from our fifth starts we should still be 1st.

isn't this like a mathematical identity or something?

In the AL the Sox are second in IP by their starters with 1008IP. Oakland is fisrt with 1030IP, Boston is third with 1007.1IP.

The 4 teams who finished with more wins from their starting staff all had better overall W/L records than the Sox and all but Oakland made the Playoffs. Minnesota was 6th in Victories from their starters.

The bullpen ranked 11th in the AL in wins, and 8th in ERA.
