TLAK
I got another one............. disband the league all-together! I miss the Blackhawks. They have some exciting young players in Ruutu, Calder, Arnason, Daze, McCarthy etal. Brian Sutter enforces responsibility on all his players. They still have a very long way to go, particularly at the bottom of the roster, to be competetive. They've made some very short sighted moves such as trading Zhamnov, which hurt the team and pissed a lot of fans, plus have the most non-charismatic ownership and PR imaginable. I played a lot more hockey than baseball, growing up, which helps one to appreciate the game. There is a lot going on in the rink that a cursory fan never notices. I never liked Basketball or Soccer and don't pretend to understand it. But I don't think leagues that play games I don't like should be disbanded. If some people like it, and I don't, more power to them. Just not my cup of tea and leave it at that.

I agree with everything else you said, but how can you rate the Zhamnov trade as a bad one? We weren't going to the playoffs last year, and we weren't going to resign him at the end of the season, so why not get something for him? Good thing is, we got Vandermeer (who seems to be a pretty solid defenceman and still developing - IMHO, a number three or four in the future), Colin Frasier, who has a future as a third line piss-the-f***-out-of-you player (a b****, to phrase it differently), plus the extra second rounder last year (that I believe got us David Bolland, who is a very good player). That trade was a definite plus for this organization, and I don't say that often.
DBAHO
In this month's Cable TV Magazine I just got, they put in live NHL games on ESPN. Couldn't help but laugh.

I hated to see Zhamnov go because he was the best all around player on the team, look how well he played for the Flyers. I grant you that the trade improved the bottom of the roster but not as much as it subtracted from the top line. If Rotoworld is right he is looking for 4-5 million to sign, or about the same as he made last year, so I don't see how they were 'forced' into a deal. I'm also a little miffed because he was my favorite player, my $100 sweater is now outdated. It's in the closet hanging next to my Chelios one. The Critic
I don't miss the NHL that much yet, but I know once the World Series is over, I'm gonna start to miss it MUCH more. I don't give a half-a-damn about football or basketball, and the Wolves will be my only weekly sports fix.
Rex Hudler
Thsi may be a dumb question, but what is the deal with the NHL right now? I know their is a lockout, but how far into it are they? Are they already missing regular season games? Has their been any sign of a reconciliation? Thanks for keeping a sports fan who can't stand hockey informed. LOL

LOL The lockout has been in progress since September 15th which is when the last agreement expired. Since then both sides have traded verbal barbs with each other like a couple of spoiled brats while the NHL stays idle. Something like this is going to do some serious damage to the leauge. Their TV ratings suck ass already and attendance isint much better so if they lose a whole season or more to this dispute over who gets to be more rich at the fans expense then they are really going to be in the hurt locker. That still doesn't tell me how far into this they are. Would they normally have started the regular season by now? Are they just missing exhibition games? The Critic
That still doesn't tell me how far into this they are. Would they normally have started the regular season by now? Are they just missing exhibition games? They're over two weeks into the regular season, and they're not even negotiating. They have no plans to meet anytime soon, and the teams are releasing their dates for the next month on a rolling basis forward. Each week that passes, the teams release their arenas for other events another week. It's sickening, the disregard that they all have for the health of their sport. Each side claims to have the "best interests of the game" in mind, but really they're just trying to move their agenda forward. It's sad, and the saddest part is that ALMOST NO ONE cares. Like I said, just disband the league....... hardly anyone would notice.
