Luis Castillo

Featured Replies

It's obvious that we would all choose Juan Pierre over Luis Castillo, but thats not going to happen. I could see the Marlins giving him up for a power bat to compensate Cabrera and Lowell. Castillo is not as good as Pierre(just barely), older, and making more money, he could be expendable. he was signed last offseason to an extension, but that doesn't mean anything (i.e. Carlos Lee)

The White Sox could be a good fit for Castillo, he's a gold glover and could compensate Uribe at SS. Castillo will be making over $4,000,000 for next season and is in the 2nd year of his 4 year deal.

The White Sox could be willing to move Carlos Lee or Paul Konerko; both are good fits for that team.

The Marlins won't be willing to take on anymore salary because they never do, but it could be done so that the money is a wash. The Marlins will probably hold onto Encarnacion and have an outfield of Encarnacion, Pierre, and cabrera. This means that Konerko would be more likely. By trading Hee Seop Choi, thay have a spot open at 1st for a power hitter.

The deal could be done like this:

White Sox trade- Paul Konerko, Willie Harris, and Arnie Munoz

Marlins Trade- Luis Castillo, Jeff Conine

The White Sox get their great leadoff man and the Marlins get their great power hitter, it's a good fit. The marlins can dump the 3 million they owe to Conine and we could have a quality 1B to go along with Gload. It's about 7-8 Million for Castillo and Conine for next season and about 8-9 million for Konerko, harris, and Munoz. It's a virtual wash and I think the Sox should pursue it.

I'd take Castillo over Pierre because he fills a hole here. That'd be a horrible trade too.

Tell me whats so bad about getting the great leaddof man we've wanted for so long for a guy that we can replace.

Awful trade. Sorry.

Great leadoff hitter? .291, 2 hr, 47 rbi, 21 sb is going to get him in the HoF. Conine is not very good anymore. Why would we give them PK, Willie, and Arnie? Maybe PK, Willie, and Munoz for Castillo and Mota.

EDIT: A .373 OBP too.

Tell me whats so bad about getting the great leaddof man we've wanted for so long for a guy that we can replace.

Jeff Conine? Come on. I rather see us give up less and put Gload at first.

Considering PK's worth, the White Sox give far too much in this proposal although I'd love to have Castillo at the top of the order.

naw, s***ty trade. i like castillo but i dont want conine. if we are giving them PK, willie, and munoz, i want at least a mota along with castillo. that would be a fair trade

you guys are overvalueing konerko... the marlins play in a pitchers park do you not think they wont see what konerko did away from the cell.... also he is in his last year in his contract so why give up a guy they have for 3 more years for a guy they would only have for 1.... and mota is the only guy they can rely on in that bullpen since benitez is leaving its highly unlikely you see him in a trade.

I love the offseason.

IMO, Castillo is just as valuable as Pierre. Castillo hit leadoff vs LHP this year, and Pierre hit down in the order. A switch hitter, who plays solid defense up the middle is hard to come by. CAstillo also has a better SB %. Pierre was caught 24 times.

BTW, Castillo was hurt early in the yr and came on at the end, when others were doing poorly.

If either Castillo or Pierre were a fit for the sox, Ozzie would make sure KW tried to go after them. [i still think some deal with FLA will be made this offseason]

Wasn't Castillo just 20 of 37 or soemthing 2 years ago? Was that just an anomaly?

I think the trade is fair, we would give up a guy that they need for a guy that we need. Conine is included because they don't need him anymore and he would make the money right. Thats the only reason to include him.

If KW can put together something around PK and get Castillo and Mota, ok. But Conine has no value to the Sox.

Mota is gonna be closing for them next year

HOW CAN CONINE NOT HELP US!!!

He would be great insurance if Gload falters and can put up about a .270- .280- .290 average. He can also play the outfield and provide good leadership in the clubhouse.

.280, 14 HR, 83 RBI, 55 RUNS, 5 SB.

He will turn 39 next June. No way I give up that much just for Castillo. I could live with Conine at 3B, but they'd have to give up a bunch more than just him and Castillo.

Hey if they want to throw in a prospect, thats fine with me, but don't expect Mota in a trade like this. I know we all want to rip off the other teams, but when trades are made, they seem fair. It's years after that we find out who got the better of the deal.

Isn't it time for Conine to retire? Haha, actually the trade does sound appealing. I think Conine would be a great guy in the club house too.

Thats what I've been saying. i'd do the trade in a heartbeat. The only guy I'd be reluctant to give up is Willie because of his potential to become a Castillo-like ballplayer.

Willie reminds me very little of Castillo. Castillo is more or less a slap hitter who will get a ton of infield hits, while I do not see Willie being able to become a slap hitter like that.

Willie reminds me more of Tony Womack. More of a solid singles hitter who can beat out an infield hit when necessary.

Am i the only one that thinks willie should have a s*** load more infield singles than he gets. For a player that is supposedly so fast he does not use it well at all.

I believe this trade would never happen.

I dont know what ozzie has said exactly about castillo but imo, he has a bad attitude.

I will never forget how pissed he was when tim raines hit a game winner when he was on deck prohibiting him from continuing a long hitting streak.

That was probably one of the most egotistical selfish things i have ever seen.

Also, I haven't heard anything that florida/miami would be at all interested in trading castillo.

I am saying this because ozzie supposedly wants a "team" with a good attitude that has good work ethics.

Now, my personal opinion is that teamwork and attitude dont matter at all in baseball. It is a game of individuals playing on a team in which the manager has the duty of managing it.

Luis Castillo is probably the best fielding 2b ever outside of robby alomar(back in his hay day). He is good at what he does hitting wise-slap and run, and he would be an ideal leadoff hitter for our ballclub.

Also, I would not like to trade munoz and i believe their would be many other players the marlins would want more than munoz, who are far less than value. I guess that is because my extreme love for little arnie.

He should, but he does a bad job of hitting slow bouncing balls or very high bouncing balls. I don't know how many times I saw him roll over a ball and hit an easy grounder right to the 2Bman.
