November 23, 200421 yr The university of Iowa plans to reward coach Kirk Ferentz for his second Big Ten title in three years by announcing on Tuesday that his contract has been extended through 2012. Iowa expects to start the week by extending Ferentz's contract, which currently runs through 2009. School officials and Ferentz appear eager to end constant speculation that the coach is headed to either a top NFL job or a larger school, such as Penn State, where longtime coach Joe Paterno has struggled as his career winds down. This was from BenMaller.com. I sure hope its true cause it be a welcome to have him singed up till 2012. The big reason is this can further enhance trust in the guys he recruits that he's going to be at Iowa for the long haul. Ferentz....YES

I hate hearing year in and year out that he is going to the pros... Makes me happy to see him coaching at Iowa for quite a few years!
November 23, 200421 yr Author I should mention, his current contract calls for him to be the coach until 2009.
November 23, 200421 yr There are already NFL rumors with Ferenez all over them... There have been for years.... His kid is a Soph(?) OL... He's not going anywhere.
March 2, 200521 yr QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 22, 2004 -> 09:11 PM) There have been for years.... His kid is a Soph(?) OL... He's not going anywhere. I'm a day behind in some of my reading.... But there was a great piece in yesterday's herald if you're a Hawkeye fan... http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/col_rozn...?intID=38412168 My favorite part: ... "I don't feel like I have to be somewhere with the biggest stick or the biggest name. I've never been hung up on that...
March 2, 200521 yr He's been up for NFL jobs for a few years now. IMHO, he is the best college coach in the country. I really doubt he will leave Iowa anytime soon, even to the NFL. He wants all his kids to graduate high school in Iowa City, and I think he has a son in the 5th grade.
March 3, 200521 yr Good to see. Ferentz wants to stay in college for a while I believe. Someday he'll go back to the NFL though.
