Giambi Used Steroids

Featured Replies

Just when baseball starting making a comeback.  MLB has to be sick right now.

Alright....well, this begs the bigger, more important question.

How many of you think Bonds is/has taking/taken steroids and if so, would you like to see him ineligible for Cooperstown?

I say: Barry was certainly on steroids, for how long I am unsure of, and that he will be put in the Hall, but with an *

------Remember, these are just opinions.

Gone. Fire them them and make them unable to work in their professions again. Ban them from the HOF.

Think about it. If someone is busted for insider trading, what happens? They are fired and the SEC bans them from ever working in securities again. Commit accounting fraud, you get fired, blacklisted, and probably procecuted. Lie to your boss about using drugs, you'll be selling streetwise as soon as the drug tests comeback.

Why should athletes be any different?

Just out of curiosity...Giambi admitted to using steroids in his MVP year with Oakland correct? Well if this is the case does MLB revoked his award? Big Frank finished second to Giambi that year so wouldn't he be the most logical choice to award the MVP for that year to?

According to MSNBCs account of Giambi's testimony, he started juicing in 2001.

:huh That just seems a little strange to me...why start the juice coming off an MVP year.

Hmmmm -- seems highly unlikely to me.

Damn right it does. I wouldn't be surprised if that is BS too....

Wow. I just wonder how long the MLB was going to put off this steroid hunt, if they did anything at all. They knew full well that this type of research would be devestating to the league and I'm sure they wanted to avoid this in the extreme. it was just a matter of time, however.

I mean Barry can't go from looking like this ->barry2.JPG

To this -> img5577236.jpg

Without touching the juice. Same goes for Mark Mcgwire and Giambi.

Like Robin Williams said...if you walk up to the plate with a watermelon for a head and walnuts down-stairs, You're Out!

For what its worth, although this is a terrible situation for baseball, the Big Hurt could be one of the few players that benefit from all of this. If it weren't for all the bloated, steroid-induced stats in recent years, Frank's numbers wouldn't be so overshadowed and would have a stronger case for HOF.

But in the end, this is very bad for baseball, and bad for everybody involved with the sport.

You're a very bad man, Jason Giambi. :nono

...

What is the current MLB policy for steroid usage? If a player tests positive, is it made public immediately?.......when is he retested?.....how many times can he test positive before it's made public?

Anyone :huh

That picture is a lot more telling to me. Bonds was last a Pirate in 1992...and that picture that Addison posted of Bonds in a Giants uni was within the last 4 years, so we'll say 2002 just as an example. If you lifted consistently as often as you could and you worked your ass off for 10 years like that, you could go from being Bonds in the Pirates uni to being Bonds in the Giants uni.

Still...with a lot of heavy lifting, you can get pretty big, pretty fast.

I'm not actually totally sold on banning Bonds because of the drugs. They probably took him from being a hall of famer to being one of the best players ever...but did the roids really increase his hand-eye coordination and his danger at the plate that he can take any pitch and hit it out? His hip turn is insanely fast and powerful. I just do not see how roids could do all that for him...I could see how it would have an effect on him, just not nearly as much.

Going into the hall with an asterik is probably the most likely situation. He would have been a hall of famer regardless, just not one of the best of all time.

There will be no "banning" of anyone... The CBA will make sure of that...

•First offense: Treatment

•Second offense: $10,000 fine or a 15-day (not game) suspension

•Third offense: $25,000 fine or a 25-day (not game) suspension.

•Forth offense: $50,000 fine or a 50-day (not game) suspension.

•Fifth offense: $100,000 fine or a one-year suspension

And Giambi never admitted to using anything during the new CBA.

Absolutely wite. That picture blew my mind. Far and away more shocking than Bonds as a Pirate.

I find it amazing that some people don't think bonds used some sort of enhancements. The circle is too close to him. His own personal trainer is being called out for this. You mean to tell me, Bond's own personal trainer gave all these other guys roids and such but Bonds didn't take any? Possible but very very unlikely.

People that think that are f***ing idiots. There is no way in hell he has not taken them at one point.

My god Frank looks huge in that picture. Sometimes I forget how massive and strong he is. He makes Bonds look like a twerp there. I'd like to see a more recent pic of the two of them.

One other thing, this wasn't in the print editions...

I saw an interview with one of the SF Chronicle reporters, he said that in Anderson's testimony, He first met Giambi on the Japan tour following his MVP season... Giambi inquired about what Barry was taking, Anderson told him it was undetectable. Then he gave Giambi a steroid test, which he failed, convincing Giabi to swith to his undetectable roids.

Thats the most wussy policy ever.

Thats the most wussy policy ever.

Not to mention it only went in effect because 5-7% of players tested positive during announced testing

Sadly its going to take a death or a major fan backlash before it becomes any stricter, imo.

The owners themselves don't have the power to beat the MLBPA in this regards.

agreed... When does the current CBA expire?

Baseball's biggest nightmare would be if it was proven Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire were all on the juice. Its pretty obvious they were. Whatever happened to Canseco's book? I'm sure there's a publisher who would be willing to print it. I wonder if MLB persuaded Canseco not to come out with it. They need strict penalties for failing a steriod test. I was told you have to be an idiot anyway to fail one of those test. The steriod issue will hover over MLB like a black cloud until it is dealt with seriously by the players association.

2006...almost positive

Yep...Tim Kurkjian mentioned that on PTI today.

What it is going to take to change things is players like Frank Thomas, who has always been anti-steroid and who's accomplishments a being comparatively belittled, to organize a group of influential players that will go to the union officials and force their hand to agree to a policy that has some teeth.
