December 18, 200421 yr courtesy rotoworld.com Dec. 18, 2004 - 4:09 am et The Astros have yet to make a decision on whether to tender a contract to Wade Miller. Houston's chances of keeping Carlos Beltran seem to be increasing, but they may need Miller's money to make it happen. Because of the questions about his shoulder, they won't want to risk going to arbitration with him if they can't sign him this weekend. After Odalis Perez could he be our potential free agent pitcher? Or would he be a better option than Odalis?
December 18, 200421 yr I think that Wade Miller would be a great pick up, provided that he is healthy. I'm not sure what his injury from last year was, I want to say rotator cuff, but he'd be a great pitcher to add. A solid mid-back end of the rotation guy who should win ~15 games and doesn't give up to many home runs.
December 18, 200421 yr Besides Perez, Miller would be the best available target for the Sox. With the market as it is, and questions concerning his shoulder, offering Miller a two year-incentive laden contract is reasonable. whitesox9143, whichever clubs unable to sign Perez will be front runners for Miller; if available. Figure Dodgers, Angels, White Sox are three teams which will battle it out for these two starters.

Flash, But I'm afraid that we wouldn't be able to outbid those other 2 teams leaving us odd man out for another starter. I have always had faith in KW, so I'm going to put my faith in him one more time and hope he gets someone.
December 18, 200421 yr Houston won't be stupid and non - tender him, they'll figure that could easily get something good in a trade for him most likely, if they can work something out quickly. Their rotation is very injury - prone as well.
December 18, 200421 yr This reminds me of a post in another thread where someone was saying that it might be a good move for KW to just hold on to the money for a June/July trade and how it worked great last yr with Freddy Garcia. Actually, if you look back to this time last winter Seattle was debating whether or not to non-tender Freddy and were looking desperately for a trading partner. Had we offered Olivo then it most likely would've been a done deal and not only would we have had Freddy the whole yr but Jeremy Reed would be our starting RFer right now at almost $5 mil less than we're paying Dye. This is not to advocate a trade for Miller who with a shoulder injury is a much bigger risk than Freddy was, it's more a reminder that anyone who thinks they can just wait for a team to non-tender a good starting pitcher is fooling themselves and that waiting til June/July does not equate to a better bargain. In fact, it may cost you much much more and be too little too late to make a difference.
