January 17, 200521 yr All I have to say to this is that CLee either scored a R or drove in an RBI in 92 games for the CWS last year. That's 10% more than any other player. That's a high price to pay for CLee not trying to take someone out at 2B.
January 17, 200521 yr Jim, you usually remember the games pretty well, and are always honest on things. So, I ask you this -- wasn't Carlos Lee, along with Aaron Rowand, one of the guys who went hardest into 2B, in your opinion? Maybe it's just my remembering incorrectly, but I always remember Carlos going into second real, real hard... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In general, yes Keith. I never had a problem with Lee going into second base to break up double plays. He had his brain cramps on the bases to be sure, but him going in to break up double plays was never an issue for me. On that particular game, from strictly an emotional viewpoint, anything less than barreling a guy over wasn't good enough for me. I do think Ozzie should've handled the question better at SoxFest, but that's Ozzie and so be it. He is saying what he thinks and he's entitled to do so. If it were me, I would've said something like, "well, we definitely plan to be more aggressive this year, on several levels".
January 17, 200521 yr Someone in the CWS needs to make an apology to CLee for those comments. CLee is part of CWS folklore involving the Chi-town series. That is the last guy you want to tarnish. Ever. It would be better to tarnish Maggs than CLee. I'm pretty pissed at Ozzie right now for those comments.
