January 22, 200521 yr According to the AP; Wilkens met with team president Isiah Thomas after the loss and indicated he would likely resign as head coach, two sources told The Associated Press. The resignation will likely come Saturday morning when the team holds practice at its suburban New York training facility, said the two NBA sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Expect the Phil Jackson to New York rumors to heat up, too bad he's down here in Melbourne watching the Australian Open Tennis.
January 22, 200521 yr Like i said some where else, it's not like the knicks were gonna fire wilkens. Highly doubt he goes to the knicks, even though there have been plenty of rumors. Just does not seem like a very good fit for him. Anyways, i thought he was taking the year off?
January 22, 200521 yr QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 05:01 AM) Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Isiah names himself interim coach. Exactly what came to mind for me, then he can see up close how badly the Knicks suck rather than from a luxury suite.
January 22, 200521 yr QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 03:34 AM) Like i said some where else, it's not like the knicks were gonna fire wilkens. Well of course, that's probably what it came down to. He didn't want to end up getting fired.
January 22, 200521 yr That's too bad, but it probably had to be done. Wouldn't surprise me if that was Lenny's last head coaching job.
January 23, 200521 yr QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) Exactly what came to mind for me, then he can see up close how badly the Knicks suck rather than from a luxury suite. He usually sits by the tunnel where the players go in/out. No way he names himself coach, the team is still going to be brutal if he's the coach and the next head the ax will fall on will be him.
January 23, 200521 yr does anyone else ever get resigns and re-signs mixed up too? at first i thought they extended him.
