Edgar Rice Burroughs, the man who brought you "Tarzan." Wrote "Princess of Mars" Did anyone else read this?? I think it'd be a great movie considering the computer technology around these days.

 

Without giving away too much information, It's about a man who "dies" in an Arizona cave after being chased by Indians circa 1860s. He awakens on the red planet of Mars and discovers a whole new world and abilities.

ANY Ken Follett novel, but especially Eye of the Needle (that was already a movie, but it was 1981, so it can be remade), Hornet Flight, and A Dangerous Fortune, because those are the ones I've read. But honestly, all his books are awesome.

Mission Earth by L Ron Hubbard was an incredible Sci-Fi series, but after seeing the butcher job that Travolta and company did to Battlefield Earth, I sure have 2nd thoughts about it.

Its my humble opinion that books should never EVER be made into movies. Ive seen far too many good books destroyed or otherwise messed up by the silver screen.

That is one of the few movies I have walked out of. Atrocious movie.

 

I think that if done right The Secret Life of Bees would be pretty good. Also a few books by Margaret Atwood I would love to see: Alias Grace and the Blind Assasin.

The "Clark" CIA spook character was incredible in the book. In the movie he was some second rate ass-clown who seemed like he was still stuck in Vietnam. I never even saw "Sum". And that sounds like a good thing...

I'd like to see "Survivor" by Chuck Palahniuk made into a movie (he's the guy who wrote "Fight Club".

 

Basically, the main character is part of this apocalyptic death cult. Just about the entire cult offs themselves except for him and a few others. He becomes the only survivor of the cult and gets all these media deals, etc. Then he meets this woman who can see disasters in the future.

 

Its a difficult plot to explain without giving anything away.

Sum was a total whitewash of the book. I can understand taking out the tank battle in the streets of Berlin as that was outdated but they totally whitewashed the movie by turning the terrorists from Commies and Arabs into Nazi's. That was what caused me to walk out.

I think the one where the main character was dictating the book into the cockpit voice recorder was in "pre-production" when I read it about a year ago.

 

All his books are messed up, but in a good way... All of their plots are running together for me right now, because he does tend to have some simillar type characters in each book.

Eye of the Needle: German Agent finds out Allies secret plan to deceive Germany, and the Allies try to stop him

 

Hornet Flight: Couple of Danish kids discover the German's "Secret Weapon", and try to get information about it to Britain.

 

A Dangerous Fortune: Tribulations of a mid-to-late 19th century British banking company.

 

The first two are WWII era (like you couldn't guess that). All three are VERY good, and I highly recommend all.

 

I also just started Jack Daws, and that is really good so far too. It's about Female British agents preceeding D Day.

Crime and Punishment into one that doesn't suck.
