Kerry Wood left today's game against the Rangers after calling for a trainer while warming up for the third inning.

But Wood is still better than Buehrle!

Wood leaves game with shoulder tightness

Kerry Wood left today's game against Texas after experiencing tightness in his right shoulder while warming up for the third inning.

It's snowing in North Dakota, the NFL draft is being talked about all over, and Kerry Wood is injured.

 

What else is new?

When is he signed through again?

We all might not be Cub fans here, but this sucks for Kerry if it's something major.

Even if it's minor, he's gonna get a rep as being awfully fragile these days. Whther it's fair or not is not important.

Until 2006 and they even gave him a no-trade clause.

 

They could have traded him to the Rangers for Mark Teixeira this offseason as well. :headshake

Ouch. Ya know I read that his wife, or fiancee at the time, had him on a new fitness plan. Since then, he's slimmed down and seems to be breaking down a lot.

I don't know that I would make the trade either.

 

When it comes right down to it, Wood is a hell of a good pitcher, and is ace caliber, but probably around a 2 or 3 pitcher. And while Teixeira is a monster, I still think I'd rather have an ace over a monster hitter.

 

They do also have a pretty solid 1Bman in Derrek Lee...and I'm not sure how Teix would do in the OF...he'd probably end up servicable, but that is not a guarantee.

 

It does suck for Wood...he has some pretty wicked stuff, and when he is on, he is untouchable...but he is pretty fragile. That's just unfortunate.

well Teix is a natural 3B if im correct but they have Aramis there.... but they also debated making Teix in OF this year for the rangers b4 they signed Hidalgo so he prob could of been a RF for the cubs maybe. And unlike Burnitz who is a downgrade from Sosa, Teix would be a major upgrade and what 24 years old...... and a borass client :puke

So you wouldn't trade an injury-prone pitcher for guy who's going to be a stud 1B/OF? Keep in mind how horrible the Cubs' outfield is and the fact that Wood gets hurt every season. Add in the fact that the Cubs have good pitching prospects in the minors.

He's already a stud, he just has a chance to be a marquee player and will get even better. I'd do the deal in a heartbeat though, Wood is hurt every year and IMO isnt worth big bucks. I'd possibly deal with borASS though to get Teixeira though, he's a good one and is gonna be a great one.

I would take a risk on a guy who has shown he can be a stud in the past but has injury problems over a stud offensive player...yes, that's basically what I'm saying.

We should just leave up a sticky thread for Kerry Wood injuries. That way if there's ever a year he DOESN'T get injured we can make a separate post about it.

Not to be an ass...but he was perfectly healthy in both 02 and 03.

 

He is injury prone...but so is Frank Thomas. Doesn't mean he is bad because of it, just that you have to be more careful with him.

Right on. As long as Wood is healthy come playoff time, that's all that really matters. I'd take him over Teixeira in a heartbeat.

I know I'm new here but, since when is .281/38/112 not considered doing well. He had All Star numbers as a 24 year old you gotta think hes gonna get better or at least put up those numbers consistently, especially as a switch hitting first baseman, plus he's a pretty good fielder 24 E's in 142 games...

I gotta agree except....how is he a good fielder with 24 errors in 142 games? Thats 24 errors....IN LESS THAN A FULL SEASON! That's a helluva lot of errors.
