April 9, 200521 yr Seems to me Cordero got roughed up the other day too for Texas. And Lyon got pwn3d by Jose tonight too.
April 9, 200521 yr Had to laugh at Stoney's comments about Hawkins after the game .... "he's a good set up man, but as a closer, he's a good set up man."
April 9, 200521 yr Author QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 9, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) Had to laugh at Stoney's comments about Hawkins after the game .... "he's a good set up man, but as a closer, he's a good set up man." Leave it to good old Stoney to tell it like it is. LOL!!!!!
April 9, 200521 yr QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Apr 9, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) Leave it to good old Stoney to tell it like it is. LOL!!!!! I've always liked Steve Stone, even when he was spouting Cublove. That was his job. But the man knows his s*** and I'd love to see him replace DJ in the Sox booth.
April 9, 200521 yr Foulke almost blew a save against the Blue Jays... "Foulke eventually saves the day Boston closer rattled in ninth, but settles down vs. Jays" http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/gameday...t=.jsp&c_id=bos
April 9, 200521 yr Most importantly, a lot of these teams don't have decent backup options if their closers fail. The Sox have a few. After watching Hermanson throw against the Twins, he'd be first in line if shingo doesn't improve. But I think Shingo will be alright, as long as he can throw his slow stuff for strikes.

It is reassuring to have Hermanson available in case Shingo faulters.
April 9, 200521 yr QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 9, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) It is reassuring to have Hermanson available in case Shingo faulters. Most teams expected to fight for the playoffs would be completely screwed if their closers get hurt/ go into the tank---Boston, the Yanks, Angels, Twins, Rangers. That the sox could probably get by with little drop off if Shingo can't get the job done is very encouraging.
April 9, 200521 yr __________ (closer's name)SUCKS AND ________ (manager's name) IS AN IDIOT FOR NOT GETTING HIM OUT OF THERE BEFORE HE BLEW THE SAVE!!!!!! IF _______(team name) DON'T GET THEIR HEADS OUT OF THEIR ASSES, THEY'RE GONNA FINISH IN LAST PLACE!!!!!! ....please feel free to copy and paste this onto your favorite team's message board, filling in the blanks with the appropriate names.....
April 9, 200521 yr And yet the team we'd all love besides the Cubs to have their closer struggling, which has pretty much never happened over the past few seasons (which helps explain a part of their dominance in this division), the Minnesota Twins. And with Jesse Crain in their ranks, I don't think it'll be happening for a long time yet.
April 9, 200521 yr Trevor Hoffman got lit up also a couple of days ago. Larry Bowa thinks its because closers don't get enough work in spring training. They don't get their arms stretched out and are missing their spots. He thinks everyone, including Shingo, will be fine after they get some more work.

April 9, 200521 yr QUOTE(That funky motion @ Apr 9, 2005 -> 09:46 AM) No matter what,it still beats Koch!! A one armed penguin beats Koch. No, wait, that's unfair. It at least needs 1 1/2 arms.
