April 14, 200521 yr I am worried about the fact that the sox are 4th from the bottom in batting average at .241, and dead last (by alot) in OBP with .265 (next closest cleveland at .289). What it tells me is that the Sox are scoring the men they get on base, which is good to see, but still .265 is pathetic. obviously uribe wont hit .130 and dye wont hit .190, but still im worried. Part of it may be due to the fact that we have already faced 3 of the top 4 AL leaders in ERA from last year (1. santana, 3. westbrook, 4. radke) and a pretty damn good pitcher in milwood twice. We haven't seen the pitching of teh devil rays rangers and other teams of that sort, but our pitchers also havent seen the bosox or yankees yet either (granted cle is a damn good offensive team). but once our hitters get going, what should we expect from them?
April 14, 200521 yr As happy as I am with the fact we are winning, I am a little concerned about Paulie and Jermaine Dye.
April 14, 200521 yr im concerned that we cant score a damn run to save our lives, yet we keep sneaking by with wins.. We score what, like 3 runs a game.. Hitting will improve though
April 14, 200521 yr Believe it or not, this is actually a good thing in my eyes. This team would not have won nearly as many games last year, with the same offensive results. They would be 2-6 or 1-7 if they had hit like this. Once the offense comes around this team could be real dangerous.
April 14, 200521 yr QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) As happy as I am with the fact we are winning, I am a little concerned about Paulie and Jermaine Dye. those are the guys you dont mind having in early slumps..... eventually they'll come around. i was worried about Iguchi and Pods... so far so good. well... i was also worried about Crede, but i'm not holding my breath on that one....
April 14, 200521 yr I wasn't expecting everything to click at once. I'm confident that the Sox hitters will find their stride. I'm just glad to see them take 6 of 8 while not hitting all that well. Pitching, defense and the timely hit....a classic combination.
April 14, 200521 yr Kind of a take-off on what SS2k5 said, but, if we're near league-bottom in offensive categories and our record is 6-2, I'm excited to see what we can accomplish when we actually start hitting. Our team line is not going to be .242/.265 as this season progresses.
April 14, 200521 yr You have to think about it this way, the Sox offense isn't really even clicking yet and they are still winning games... now think what its going to be like once they do start firing.....

Oh yes Ray, they will come.
April 14, 200521 yr In the beginning of the season pitching is usually ahead of the hitters. I expect our offense to improve and our starting pitching to have a few more hiccups.
April 14, 200521 yr QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) on the same token though, you have to expect the pitching to cool down too I would have to say that the offense has been more bad, than the pitching has been good. I think the pitching will regress a little, but really as a whole the pitching is so solid, I don't think it has far to fall. The team ERA is about 3.65 last I looked, and I could see this team being in the 4-4.20 era range for the year.
April 14, 200521 yr I'm most impressed by them not beating themselves. I don't see as many stupid mistakes as in the past. They are also capitalizing on other team's mistakes and making them pay. I see good baserunning, good defense, smart pitching. The hitting will come. Chill out and enjoy it, we are tied for the best record in MLB.
